What do you guys think about this type of trailer for me??

I have an all-aluminum trailer and I like it, but I would agree that cheap aluminum trailers may not be the thing.

When I went to look at Keifer-Built trailers before, I wasn’t impressed… just didn’t have the solid feel that the 4-star did.

You might try calling Heacock Trailers in Glendale. They build their own, and they get used in on consignment. Not flashy, but they seem solid, and they’re not pricey. They may have something that will work for you.

If you are going to double your budget, you have a lot more options which are probably better than this one. I personally don’t like aluminum at all, but cheap aluminum is a real no-no. Very unsubstanial. By doubling your budget you should be able to find a nice used hybrid.

Wow, SOLD! But how am I going to get all the way up there???

Good suggestion Poltroon. My friend has a very nice Heacock trailer that she bought from them used. It’s definitely big and was in great shape. I think she paid $5000 or something like that, and it was fairly new.

Well, I am not purposly doubleing my budget but I hate to pass on another trailer from this lady. She said she could take payments. The last trailer she had was so perfect and I was just a day to late to get it before it was sold. She also says this one is nice and it will sell fast.

And for the girl with the other horses that I will be trailering, I WILL be charging her!

I don’t know if this trailer has dividers but if it doesn’t I think I will have to pass. Chase would not do well rubbing up against another horse and I would never want to risk injury to him from the other horse not likeing him very much either.

I am concerned about the aluminum, I have seen pictures of stress fractures on all aluminum pieces in trailers. I am just not educated enough to know whether this trailer is really good or not.

I will post pics when I get them.

Chanda,

I’ve been on the “great trailer hunt” lately myself and found that Kingston has a steel framed/aluminum skin trailer in the $6000-$8000 range brand new (cheaper used) - see Briarwood or Dartmouth models.
These “hybrids” are fairly light (2000-2500lbs) but offer lots of room and amenities. Plus, you just don’t hear anything bad about a Kingston as far as I can tell. They seem to last forever.
I’m just waiting for a good used one to present itself in my area and I’m snatching it up.
(that is, unless I find a horse van I like first - my other choice).

Hope that helps.

Well Kieffer Built makes a wonderful trailer from the frame up. It is in great shape. But it looks like this version is a little out of reach for your end use. I don’t care for the single wall construction of this stock trailer.

And I don’t know, do you think there is a reason they call them “stock trailers”? No offense to those that own one.

I’m glad you are still in touch with Barbara. I wondered if she was keeping you in mind. She is cool enough if you thank her profusely for thinking of you , but pass, she will keep looking.

You will find THE one. But dang, is it frustrating or what???
