I personally am very confident that I can restart a track horse. I’ve done it multiple times. I’ve pulled most of them directly from the row just based on appearances. If I like their look and they’re sound, I bring them home. They may not have the brain for hunters for a long time but they’ll get there eventually. I wouldn’t rule out the jumper ring though. If you’re just looking for a project/pet and don’t really care about competition, just get what appeals to you and make sure it’s sound. If you’re looking for an A rated hunter you shouldn’t be looking at the track. You never know what you get until you get it home.
Great info on confirmation from the post… that’s key. I like a shorter canon bone and a wide stance hind end because I jump. Personally I like the years on the track 6-7+ years old because if they raced a lot they can handle a lot mentally and physically. How many owners? Can show if they have had the chance to get some good love and bonding. I like to look at their record, how often and why they stopped racing especially if they are 3-4. Everyone has a different view…my older Tb ran until 7yr. just retied his showjumping career at 21. sound as can be.
