What do you wear for gloves?

I managed to lose 1 glove of my only pair of schooling gloves. They were the Roeckl Chester (now called the Roeck-grip). I may just get them again, they’re nice looking and comfortable, but not terribly hearty.

So any suggestions for gloves that are comfortable and relatively unobtrusive that are also decently long-lasting?

I have 4-5 different models of Roeckl. Love them.

I really love Neumanns. I have a black pair for every day, and a white pair for show.

I have Neumanns for show, I use SSG leather gloves with the crochet backs for every day.

Any favorite model and any idea where you got them?

I get these garden-center work gloves that come in multiples in a pack, for everyday riding.

I put one pair in the trailer, one pair in my trunk, and one where I use them day to day (inside my helmet). I also have “real” riding gloves for clinics, etc and I have white leather gloves for shows. But these hold up about as well as riding gloves, and at $10 for three pairs, I don’t expect them to last a lifetime and I don’t freak if I lose one along the way.

I like the SSG Hybrid gloves. They are nicely grippy and thin. I prefer gloves that have the wide velcro on the back of the hand, rather than at the wrist. They also have small mesh panels for breathability. Only downside is they stain my hands in the summer when I sweat a lot. Hmm, maybe I’ll buy white ones for schooling next summer.

Neumann gloves for 20+ years. Breathable fabric back and solid, moldable, grippy hands.

Neumann batters gloves. More economical than riders gloves ( by same maker) and more durable

I work at the Farm House and we always have a zillion. My favorites are blingy, the Lara, and my current second-best is the Montreal.

I love the SSG gloves as well! I save the Hybrids (leather) for shows or clinics, and use their Digital gloves for schooling, as they are a little thinner but still grippy, so they feel like a second skin. And they wash very well, so they come out like new!

My favorite are the SSG All Weather gloves. Have them in black for home and white for shows.

I’m brutal on gloves, even high-end ones and I can’t do leather in the summer. So I do cheap Noble Outfitters gloves and they’ve held up really well actually, going on 6 months for $19 gloves.

Noble Outfitters Perfect Fit riding gloves are my favorites. I am a glove snob and wear gloves of the time while at the barn (riding, tacking up, mucking). Good price point to for the quality. I’ve bought more expensive gloves, but these fit better and last longer than many SSG, Ariat, and other brands I’ve tried.

I’m pretty sure mine are the SSG technical sport or something like that. They have a wide, high up support cuff witch are fabulous with my super floppy, easily dislocated hypermobile joints. Aside from that, they’re super thin and by far the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn.

MacWets are my absolute favorites. As they’ve gotten harder to find, I’ve acquired some Roeckls as well.

I tend to do the same, so I think I’ll try these for every day and get a pair of nice gloves for clinics/lessons. Thanks!

I bought some of these when I needed gloves in a hurry and they were the first I tried on at Smartpak that fit. Since then I’ve absolutely beaten the snot out of them and washed them a zillion times and they still look like new. (I hang-dry, though.)

About my only complaint is that they seem to hold smells pretty well; before they went in the wash today, they reeked. To be fair, my shirt and breeches also reeked (90% humidity here on the outskirts of a hurricane and both the horse and I were sweating like mad this morning), but it washes right out. Usually they’re just… pleasantly horsey, and I keep them in the front of the car as a kind of air freshener.

I generally don’t, rarely even in winter. But in winter if it’s cold enough for me to want something to take the edge off then I actually wear work gloves, like you’d see landscapers or construction workers wear. They’re tough enough to last, but designed especially for manual dexterity, since you’d normally be wearing them when working with tools. And they give you a good feel on the reins.

Love this idea - question - how hot are they in the summer/warm are they in the winter?
