What’s the current feeling about which saddle brands hold their value/ do well on the resale market? One of these days I’m going to need a new saddle and I’ve just had it with saddles that are tough to sell if/when it stops working for my horse. Obviously I have my own preferences- just wondering what other people have luck with reselling when the time comes.
The market is flooded with lots of used saddles these days. I just send mine to a consignment shop and it usually goes within the year if it’s a good brand in general. Pelham Saddlery may be able to tell you what brands, they will send a note once in a while looking for quality dressage saddles.
It took me about 3 months to sell a Custom Saddlery, 9 months for a Passier I had to send out on consignment, and I gave up on the Amerigo.
I don’t feel like there’s any single brand I see people jumping on for resale. Maybe black country?
Saddlery Dresch has a trade in program so that you can just trade in your old Dresch for a new one when your horse grows or you get a different horse.
I had no idea! I love my Dresch and it still fits my now 19 yr old!
Seriously, if you have a well thought saddle fitter in your area, I think choosing a brand that they rep or like is a good idea. Even the truly independent ones have preferences.
I hope this is allowed, it seems as though this is the perfect place for this question. I am NOT in any way a competitor, am a senior, pleasure (around the farm) rider on a GAITED horse. I am not in an area with any tack shops so have to rely on online sales. I have used Galloping Grape in Warrenton and have excellent experiences with her. I am looking for a Wintec WIDE, 17" seat, used, he needs the WIDE line, have already tried one with a white, X-WIDE gullet and it doesn’t work and the saddle fitter says I have to go to their WIDE line, if anyone knows of a source , other than eBay or Facebook marketplace I would appreciate. At a recent clinic we worked in dressage saddles and my gaited horse moves so good in it and I was so comfortable in the deep seat, it put me in the perfect spot for him. Thanks in advance and I’m not looking for reviews on Wintecs.
What does a fitter’s preference have to do with the shape of your horse ? In fact it’s detrimental.
