Throwgoods, all the way. They even have a line specifically designed for super-wide horses. My tank QH (lots of halter blood on her sire’s side, she’s a BIG girl) fits in one nicely. The XW gullet on Wintecs doesn’t even come close to fitting her. :uhoh:
For my old horse, I actually ended up with an Albion. They are more widely known for their dressage saddles, but also make hunter/jumper saddles as well.
My horse had extremely big shoulders and was very wide. My western saddle was 7" dot to dot, and most makers simply just don’t make english saddles that wide. But because Albions are generally made for 17-18hh warmbloods, that generally have larger shoulders and are bigger through the ribs than Thoroughbreds, it ended up working perfectly for my stocky horse.
Just some food for thought
my mare goes in a FQHB western saddle and a wide tree Prestige hunter classic D. It has long flaps and is super grippy and comfy, great for equitation. Best saddle I have ever sat in. Got it used for a great price (under 1K). Prestige saddles are also adjustable (by them).
