What girth?

Ok I am thinking of converting my current saddle from a western mohair cinch to using a girth.

What girth would be best? I don’t want anything with rubber/neoprene against the horse like this

I’m just trail riding but going through water, mud etc and ride several miles at a time (on some rides up to 20 miles) so it is important to me that my horse is comfortable.

My pocket book is somewhat limited.

Thanks

A girth made of nylon webbing lined with synthetic fleece is easy to clean and none of my horses have ever had issues with them. For trail riding, especially if you’re using it with a western saddle which is heavier than an English saddle, wider is better as it provides more surface area to spread the friction over. Have you considered having a couple of buckles on short leather billets attached to the cincha ring on each side of your current mohair cinch? You could accomplish the same thing while keeping the girth you already know your horse likes.

I don’t think that I can do that because the saddle I have has the rigging where I have to go from front to back.

I don’t understand what you mean.

It’s an enduro rigging so if you look here I need to have something for the back of the saddle to keep it down. I mean I guess I don’t have to have that… http://www.crestridgesaddlery.biz/We...p/tackbico.htm

I wish I could draw a picture. What I mean is put two buckles on the ring on each end of your cinch. Cut off the tongue if it has one. Essentially convert your mohair girth into an English-like girth and then use as in the picture you posted.

You already have the girth, you know your horse likes it, and you know it doesn’t let the saddle slip. If you did that (which I have done once, actually), you can use 1.25" inch buckles instead of standard 1" ones and 1.25" latigo from the front and rear rigging dees.

Heck, send me the mohair cinch and I’ll put the buckles on it.

I use this one with my converted rigging.

If you like Mohair, and just want to swap the rigging, an endurance girth would be a good choice. You can special order them with 1.5" buckles, or get 1" English rigging.

1" and 1.5" center fire rigging is here - http://www.ridingwarehouse.com/Mad_Tack_BioThane_Center_Fire_Rigging_Billet_Set_1/descpage-MTBCFRB1.html

I use the 1" with either a mohair girth, or the Tekna anatomic girth.

Ahhh I get what you are saying now Bombproof  Sorry a little slow.

Thank you for the suggestions! I am going to look at them all and think on it. I just want to make sure I get something that isn’t going to rub etc.

Edited to add, why the heck have I never been on the riding warehouse page? LOL that could be dangerous.

Riding Warehouse has 15% through today (April 24) only. Code is FLASH15.

Thanks!
