I just did a remote lesson using WhatsApp and a bluetooth speaker. It was fine for me, but not a good quality picture for my coach, and we couldn’t zoom in. What have you, personally, used that worked well for this? I do have wifi in my indoor. Thanks in advance.
My current instructor is in NZ (I’m in USA). We are working on form over fences. I send her video via Drop Box if it’s a long one, and if it is under 30 seconds (doing a series of the same fences repeatedly) I use Messenger via FaceBook. Personally, I like it better than an “in person” lesson because for the FIRST TIME EVER I can see what the instructor is talking about —‘keep your knee bent’ has no meaning if you think your knee IS bent —but seeing a straight knee when you thought it was bent, well, that’s a revelation!
Ok, but I’m looking for live lessons.
I’ve been doing Skype or FaceTime. The downside is you need a second person to do the videoing. I talk to my trainer through my phone. I decided to invest in a Pixem to do live lessons without needing a second person (and hopefully a clearer picture).
I did Skype and my Ceecoach used as a blue tooth head set. I had someone to video. It worked fine for me but our internet isn’t fast enough so the picture wasn’t great. Would maybe invest in a booster if I needed to do it again.
Zoom with 2 iPhones and the instructor on his computer worked pretty well but not when it’s cold. Phone battery only lasted 30 minutes. One phone had good video and steady service the other had great video quality and choppy transmission. But overall it worked well.
Be mindful of liability issues when using a life stream method for lessons. I seem to recall insurance companies saying that liability would not be covered. Best to check with your own before using it.
seriously, what kind of liability issues are you talking about? The instructors? Since they aren’t even there, it would be hard to prove that they were responsible for anything going wrong…
