What horsey things do you do in non-horse situations?

I also hold my dog leashes like reins, and cluck at them. My husband just rolls his eyes.

When I drive I do the “rolling slowly up to the stoplight hoping it will change so I don’t have to brake” thing, even if it’s my regular car and not my truck and trailer. My regular car is an EV, though, with one-pedal drive so that actually works pretty well, lol. One of my horses gets really angry if we are on a long trip and I have to stop a lot, so I try to minimize it to reduce the amount of pissy stomping that goes on in the back. Horse version of “are we there yet? WHY NOT???”

I don’t own a human first aid kit, so whenever DH, one of the dogs, or I have a laceration (cut?), we head out to the barn to the first aid cabinet (ex vet tech here - I’m quite well stocked). Everything gets a healthy dosing of betadine scrub or chlorhex and then wrapped with telfa pads and vetrap.

I also swear by icthammol or epsom salt paste for splinters, even though DH thinks I’m crazy.

Frequently checking out dogs that are being walked in the neighborhood to look for signs of lameness. Same with my older chonky cat when I see her “trotting”

Got in my car after my 6’3" son had driven it and thought, “oh, I need to shorten my stirrups”.

As my trainer likes to say - you and I, we’re built different.

I assume this is left over from my racing days, but when I drive I can’t bear to not ‘hug the rail’ around a turn. On a curvy highway, i will find the shortest way and drift across lanes to achieve the shortest trip. I resist doing this when there’s a lot of traffic, but when traffic is light I’m always looking for that short trip around the turns, and getting as close as I can to the white line.

Dancing at a wedding and my sandal started to slip off. I was trying to get my BF at the time to stop all the twirling and let me fix it, so I yelled “I threw a shoe!” He was a horse guy so he got it.

Anything I tie gets a quick release knot,- I’m a one trick pony when it comes to knot tying.

I have to catch myself on calling “door” when I enter a new room more than I like to admit…the worst is when it happens at the grocery store moving from a small aisle to a bigger aisle!

I also count strides between lines in the sidewalk.

Talking to DD one day (she works in a medical office) and she asked for some sort of medical bandage. I went and got an Ace. She goes no, I want the other stuff that adheres (and she called it something) and I’m “Oh! You mean vet wrap?? That stuff’s called VET WRAP!”

yes. I wrapped my husband’s injury before sending him to the dr for some stitches and they were like you did a good job, medical experience. And I just went horses.

So funny! I also say this in work settings and people look at me confused

As a teacher, I frequently cluck at students to get them moving, especially in the halls. I’ve also done this to adults in crowded situations. And to cars in traffic. I use horse terms for passwords which leads to interesting conversations when I share them with fellow teachers.

Vet wrap-- that’s how I always refer to it in all situations. Makes the phlebotomist giggle.

Once, I had a weird ‘growth’ on a finger after a lead rope pulled my cuticle away from the nail. It kept growing and was very painful. Went to my PA and told her “hey, I think I have proud flesh forming there”. She looked puzzled but upon examination, that’s exactly what it was…but she used the human term for it. My ortho and I were discussing my hip issues and he talked about PRP, asking if I knew what this “new treatment was”. Uh…sure do, my horse just had it!

When my car slides a bit on snow/ice I instinctively put on a little leg. Weird it doesn’t actually help the car.

I do a lot of half halts when my husband is driving with my seat and abs.

I always get compliments on bandaging my kids when I take them in for whatever.

I have occasionally taken Equioxx tablets myself when out of human NSAIDs.

Probably a bad idea.
From the person who has taken horse SMZ’s for a UTI when I could not get to the doctor.
