A friend just asked me “What is a jackpot roping?” I thought I knew…it’s just an amateur roping, right?
But then it occurred to me that I maybe just thought I know what it is when I really don’t.

Jackpot means that there is no money added to the pot. Everyone’s entry fees are put into the pot and the winner gets a percentage, then second, then third. More entries = more money in the pot.

Really kind of depends, I suppose.
Most open jackpot ropings, anyone can go … even if you do have a pro card.
Sometimes they may have added money (on top of the entry fees) and still call it a “jackpot”.
Just depends on the area.
