What is she?

This is my mare, Luna. I purchased her a couple of months ago and was told she was a Quarter Pony. She has no paperwork or concrete history.

She is 13hh, around 500lbs, bay with white blaze and one blue eye.

I’d love some opinions! I’m just not seeing anything quarter about her. She’s muscled up tremendously since I bought her in late August. They had partially roached her mane down the center so I trimmed it all out to even it up and it’s now growing back quite thick and full. I can upload and share a video if it would be helpful! My best guess at the moment is Welsh x Morgan pony. She is very athletic, moves very much like a sport horse in a small body.

Cute, looks to be a Welch pony

my guess is you are correct with the Welch/Morgan cross as her trail carriage and length looks Morgan

What a little pocket Venus! She is adorable and looks like she could jump the moon, comparatively speaking. Does anybody know how the blue eye would fit into her breeding? Part paint?

I have no problem seeing QH in her. You didn’t mention what part of the country you are from, but are there lots of Welsh ponies and Morgans at the local shows? Any breeders?

SW Virginia. We have quite a few welsh breeders around, not sure about morgan. I’m not sure if she’s from here originally or not. She’s done jumpers before, I’m focusing on dressage at the moment. Thanks for the feedback, all!

Its WELSH. Welch’s makes jams and jellies.

IMO no QH in that one. Looks like a Welsh cross.

Welsh/Paint cross. There are a lot of blue eyes in paints.

I think there’s a lot of welsh influence in there. There seems to be way more “unknown” breeding in ponies than in horses. I’m not sure why. However, just “pony” seems to work out fine for most of them! She is adorable.

With the blue eye, this would have been my guess, too.

I could see Morgan there…what’s her personality like?

Friendly, a bit wild at times but a great listener (and she is a mare), very in-tune to what you’re doing - on the ground or in the saddle, low on the totem pole in the pasture. I’ve only had her a couple of months but she tends to keep her head quite high. A bit of an “on alert” kind of head carry, but is starting to relax. Relaxing much more under saddle now as well. Lovely gaits and transitions. She is a nice, fun little mare. She’s started to become quite playful as well. I think she is warming up to her new environment and as time goes on I’ll know more about her. When I got her they said she was awful on a lunge line, but I’ve had very few problems with it. She is to the point now that she will trot with a cluck, canter with a kiss immediately on a lunge when asked. She’s a very nice little mare.

Super cute! Welsh and Morgans can have blue eyes as well, so blue eyes don’t necessarily indicate Paint breeding.

She is just adorable whatever she is!

Why not contact a few of the Welsh breeders and see if anyone recognizes her?

Welsh/ Cute cross.

Adorable, that is what she is.

I bred my mare to a purebred cremello Welsh stallion with two blue eyes.

I keep seeing the Welsh pony stallion *Menai Mister Mosteyn in her

She’s a pretty pony.
She looks like a pony I rode when I was young that was welsh/Arab/qh. He was about 13.3
