What is the maximum length for a show name?

Trying to come up with a show name for my new lesson horse as she’ll likely show this winter. I typically like short names, but her rider came up with a longer name I like…but I don’t know if it is too long. Equestrian Canada was no help. I thinking the software shows use might have a cut off too…any ideas?

I’ve never heard of a max length. Some of those European names are pretty long.

Don’t know about length, but make sure it is pronounceable.
Jr I rode with called her horse Sophocles.
Very literary… until an Announcer made it Sop Hockles

Not sure of length limits, but I will say as a kid it was super frustrating that my horse’s very long show name was too long to be engraved on halter plates/bracelets/embroidered. Not like that should truly matter, but 12 year old me was miffed about it

Limits with whom?
Belle’s full name is over 20 characters (of which 12 are the breeder’s prefix).
No problem with USEF
No problem with USEA
VHSA made me truncate it.
Also, the software that some local show use truncates it.

IIRC the JC limits to…is it 16 letters and spaces? AQHA might, think they used to. Remember getting creative with spelling to stay within that a few times years back.

Thats not a bad standard for engraving on halter plates, embroidering on anything or for the show management software to handle.

JC is 18 characters.

You could always just email whatever organization you’re planning on registering with and asking them.

I am more worried about the show software cutting off the name rather than it being too long for EC.
