what is the min thickness of a snaffle per USEF rules?

have there been any updates to this booklet?

I am hearing that 14 mm is the min allowed, but here it says 10mm. Snaffle only, not a double.

My horse is going better in a thinner bit due to mouth size. Double jointed KK ultra. Before investing in bits I need to know the rules for 2017.

Best to go straight to the most current rulebook rather than the TD guidance pamphlet: https://www.usef.org/documents/ruleBook/2017/08-DR.pdf

Page 497: “The diameter of the snaffle mouthpiece must be minimum 10 mm diameter at rings or cheeks of the mouthpiece (exception: for ponies, the diameter may be less than 10 mm).”

If you read a few pages down in the FEI section, I believe 14mm is the minimum for FEI Young Horse classes.

Another option is to call USDF or USEF directly. I’ve done this a couple of times when having difficulty interpreting the rules and they’ve both been quite helpful.

Yes, best to go to the rule book. But, the pamphlet was updated 4/1/16. I like that it has many examples of what is and is not permitted.
