What IS this -- skin crud?

Hi all,
Seeking equine skin care experts.
Could you please take a look at this – http://s284.photobucket.com/user/melindamaloney/library/ – and let me know what you think it is?
Started out looking like gnat bites and has since turned into this.
I’ve treated with medicated shampoo and scratches medicine, to no avail.

It looks to me like the horse has rolled in something poisonous or scratched itself against poison oak/ ivy, wild parsnip etc. Wild parsnip/hog weed will burn and blister the skin like this.

Sending jingles your way

Not sure what it is…when I’m unsure, I usually wash with chlorohexidine and after that dries, I use Equiderma Skin Lotion from Telesis.

The Chloro is effective against virus, bacteria and fungus and the Equiderma lotion seems to help it heal.

If it doesn’t improve quickly, I’d get the vet to look at it.

Good Luck

Thank you! She gets turned out in a very manicured, grass paddock for just an hour or so a day, so it’d be VERY unusual if she found something to roll in … other than grass. None of the other horses who use that paddock have shown up with anything.
I’ll try the Equiderma. Skin things make me crazy!

Rain rot that’s sloughed off as it’s grown out? Muck Itch works for that.

I also recommend Muck Itch…
