Sorry for the ginormous image.
But the last few days this has been getting larger.
It is behind some hardware cloth attached to the inside of the door to the coop (there was a window there & previous owner boarded it over & reinforced with the wire) at my eye-level (5’2") & something is gathering moulted feathers & shavings to build: A Nest? or???
I do not see any image.
We had a mouse that some how got into our chicken coop and happily lived there until we trapped it.
The image didn’t pop up for me I just removed a nest in my nesting box that sounds like what you’re describing (but would love to see your pic!) and it got bigger and bigger each day. One day I opened it and there was a tiny mouse who’d made himself at home. I bought rodent repellant pouches at the farm supply store and he’s since moved out!
Would love to see the pic!
Mice or rats?
Our hens loved mice for breakfast.
Not sure one would have had a chance to make themselves at home in their coop.
Maybe something bigger, rat, opossum?
Sorry, I thought that was too easy … copy/paste the pic from my email to my post here.
Now I’ll try going the Long Way - sending the email image to Imgur & copying from there in BB Code.
I think probably mouse, but that high up seemed unusual.
There are mice in the coop - I’ve seen them on occasion.
I also know hens would just looooovvvee to have babymouse sushi
You can just use the photo option and put it in the thread from wherever it is stored on your computer.
Upper left corner of this reply box is a camera image, click that. Or in the bottom left corner is ‘upload attachments’.
Yeah, I’d guess mice for that. They don’t mind height.
They have little electric mouse traps that are more humane than poison. I’d suggest get one a put it by there with some peanut butter inside
Thanks @StormyDay
Right now mice aren’t a problem in the coop.
But as it gets colder I may consider the electric trap.
No poison bait possible, as hens could eat a poisoned mouse.
Yes, I don’t know about yours but at the barn I rent their chickens would actually kill any mice that got in their coop. But maybe mice are faster than chickens.
I agree, Poison is just a bad idea in general. Bad for the mice, dangerous for any owls or other wildlife in the area, and they tend to die in inconvenient places like in the walls.
