Nope. Although there are some ferals around. I’m currently working on two ferals.
I have always had cats, but the big explosion in population came in late 2015 when Cat Lady died. She was my home aide client who had 16 cats. I had been seeing her six days a week, so all of said cats knew me well already, and I promised her the last day she was there that I would take care of them. That was the only way she would agree to let me call for an ambulance. Of course, both of us expected just a short hospital stay, then return home, not a several-week hospital stay and death. But I did make her the promise.
Her place was very rural, and her cats had free access in and out but chose out 80% of the time. So these were already country life cats. My place is very rural; I’ve always had a couple of barn cats for rodent patrol, and I have had many live up into their teens here, the champion being Emily Dickinson, who made it to at least 16. So I imported Cat Lady’s cats to my farm, which gave them two things they were already well acquainted with, me and my car. However, while I love cats, I simply could not put everybody inside. So most of them stayed out. I did over the next few months rehome several to various places, but many of Cat Lady’s cats are still here.
So, I have an indoor pride and an outdoor pride. All are petted, vetted, and cared for, but the two groups do not meet. Eight inside is my limit. I do have a very rodent-free farm.
