What kind of beer for anhydrosis?

Lord Helpus, when you finish the 10 days can you come update the thread or message me? I got a few patches free from my vet last year but I think you need to do the full 10 days to see results so not sure if it was a great trial haha. My gelding also got the patches off his butt at some point out in the pasture but I am willing to resort to duck tape if you see results.

I’ve had my horse on refresh for nearly three years now and she is actually sweating NORMALLY now! I had her on it for around two weeks and I noticed a very very slight improvement in her ability to regulate her respiration when it was hot, then later in the summer she would sweat a little bit on some days. Then some days she would sweat normally and other days not at all and it continued like this for a while. I was perfectly content having a horse that sweat 50% of the time, but suddenly this year she is sweating?! I’ve had sweat for every ride two weeks in a row now which is a record. I give her a scoop of the refresh 2x a day, plus she has salt in her stall and has three water buckets (the refresh will make them drink a ton). I made sure to cut out any foods with high amounts of sugar in them because I read somewhere that occasionally high sugar diets reduce sweating, so I went with it. She’s an easy keeper so it’s no harm no foul. She does weigh around 1500lbs so we used to give her a scoop and a half but I personally didn’t notice the difference from the scoop. She is on it year round. I make sure to keep the hair off of her in the winter also.

I have used Equiwinner patches the past 4 summers with great success for an anhydrotic warmblood …it works so well! I am tempted to try skipping a year but the cost is minimal compared to the risk of the anhydrosis returning. It just reached the mid-80’s here and she is still sweating somewhat but I will start the patches when they arrive this week. They have improved the adhesive but I still add a couple of pieces of duct tape on the ends to ensure the patches stay put during turnout. :D:tickled_pink:

I started Guiness Extra Stout and Platinum Performance Refresh last year…along with night turnout and 2 fans in the stall. This worked for us. I could probably find a dark stout that is cheaper than the Guiness, but it works and he likes it.

I used the Equiwinner patches one summer only. Touch wood, my horse hasn’t had anhydrosis again. I had also tried the 1AC and the beer, horse liked the Guinness for about a week then turned his nose up at it - and he’s Irish! That’s when I tried the patches, it was a last resort and it started working by day 8. I live in south Texas on the gulf coast, so hot and humid is a way of life down here for most of the year. I had to put gorilla tape on the patches to make them stay on. He was put on night time turn out only plus 2 fans in his stall by day. Still follow this routine.
