Someone I know has some, and it looks awful! I want to install it, but don’t want rust!
Also, how do you handle weedwhacking it? Is it just high enough off the ground that you can go under it? (no roundup for me)
Thanks!

Red Brand no climb does not rust. At least mine hasn’t so far, it’s been up for 4 yrs. and looks like it did the day it was installed.
I had mine installed at ground level to insure no hooves would get under it.
It’s a potential hazard if it’s up off the ground, IMO.
I just weed wack one side, up to the fence, no need for toxic chemicls.
Thanks for this thread. I want to have no climb put in so I’ll try the no rust brand.
The authentic Diamond Mesh V-Mesh. Mine’s been up for 20 years and still looks great. Old Thoroughbred farms that used it, it still looks great. POSTS need replacing, but the wire is still in great shape. Last time I googled it trying to find it, Ramm fencing had it and it was $877 for 120’ 5’ high roll. Ouch.
I have some off brand (not sure if it was RedBrand) that we used to splice in (tree damage) or for additional fencing and it has rusted.
Read up on the different classes of galvanization treatments. Makes a big difference in the longevity.
Maybe clanter will chime in here. I think he has Diamond Mesh too. Plus, he knows everything!
Our old V-mesh was put in the pens in 1951 and still looks fine, no rust to it.
Diamond V-Mesh, and get the Class III galvanizing.
I’ve had Red Brand no climb for 10 years without issues. We weed whack right up to it, since our weedwhackers have plastic cord cutters (no metal). I can also run the mower quite close to the fence in most places without issues.
Mine was installed 10 years ago and still is fine. Even the places where it has been damaged are rust free. (Damage in one place caused by the tractor and the other place from a horse. )
We have no problem with weeds on the horse side since the no-climb is in the paddocks which are a sacrifice area so they get chewed down to nothing. The other side we just use the string trimmer.
No climb is an actual style of fencing, wire mesh fencing does not necessarily equal no climb.
I used red brand and it rusting, it’s about 15 years old. Want to replace with something that won’t rust. We live in a very humid area though.
ETA I use roundup for fencelines.
There are different levels of galvanized, maybe the lighter galvanizing does rust thru in harsh environments?

We live in an old horsey neighborhood there V-Mesh that was installed in the 1950s that is weathered but not rusted. Our V-mesh was installed twenty-five years ago, just weathered
My guess is OP’s non-climb is wield wire rather than twisted stranded
we use Red Brand no climb–some fencelines are 10+ years old and weathered, but not rusted. Our is installed to ground level so hooves and coyotes can’t get underneath. In the back we don’t bother, but around the barn we just trim with a plastic cord weed whacker and it does fine.

Same issues.
Red Brand offers different levels of galvanization. You want the Class 3 or better.
We have had good luck with fencing from that company that starts with a B - Boeckmann? boekeart? Something like that.

This company uses a better than class 3 coating and it is guaranteed for 40 years or something like that. At least their class 3 is guaranteed for 20 years.
Commercial
This is the minimum coating. It meets no standards and will last 3 months to 1 year before rust occurs.
Class 1 galvanized coating is typically found on your basic barbed wire and field fence. Class 1 wire is likely last 2 to 11 years in most non-coastal climates.
Class 3 galvanized coating, is considered the industry standard. The Class 3 coating is 2.5 times thicker than Class 1 and may last approximately 13 to 30 years before rusting in non-coastal climates.
Class 40 advanced coating technology is featured on all 50-Year Fence products. The Zinc-Aluminum hybrid base coat extends the life of StaTite50 up to twice the life of Class 3 galvanized wire.

Your friend might have 2x4 welded wire…No Climb…as others have stated …doesn’t rust!
