Arogno - the spectacular Trakehner stallion was out of the thoroughbred mare, Articonius xx (by Apollonius xx). The belief that only thoroughbred stallions are used in breeding in Europe is just NOT true. Articonius xx was given the predicate of E.St. for her efforts and production of superior quality foals. She was a humble TB mare who turned out to be rather extraordinarily valuable, because it is HER influence and lineage that went on to produce the great stallion, Karon.
When Karon was paired with Pr.St.Capri VI, we were graced with the presence of a special stallion who has all but turned the world on it’s side, especially in his influence in the Hanoverian directly himself, but also through his sons and grandsons in the UK, Canada, USA, and Denmark - Caprimond.
Caprimond’s mother, Pr.St. Capri VI, never produced a full sibling to Caprimond. As far as I can tell, she spent her whole life as a broodmare and never showed. Her own mother, Coeur-As, was full sister to the stallion Chantilly. Capri’s sire, Mackensen, passed on to her the strong influence of Flaneur. It’s a combination of all these things that gives Caprimond what he has today. He stands at Klosterhof Medingen, and as recently as even 2010, Caprimond still performed at stallion shows alongside his son, Hohenstein, his grandson, Munchhausen, and great-grandson Tiziano.
Caprimond is so honored, that a full-sized statue of him in cast bronze stands in the entry garden at Klosterhof Medingen. The Wahler family is headed by the grandmother, Gudrun Wahler, and she will readily tell you how special this great horse is to her family.
You have to understand, most of the mares of these great, great stallions never or rarely stepped foot into a show ring. These great mares were considered to be far too valuable to risk getting into an accident while travelling to shows, or putting them under the stresses of showing and increased risks of exposure to infections, viruses and colic.
