What podcasts do you listen to when you're doing barn chores alone in the dark

Mike Higher Podcast is a mix of true crime, conspiracies and other various topics, aliens, etc.

By my logic, I’m perfectly safe doing chores alone in the dark as long as my podcast is upbeat! Any monsters will see I’m listening to a comedy podcast and keep it moving!

Big podcast listener here. If I’m driving or doing barn chores or walking, I listen. My favorites that might not be obvious are :
Throughline, a deep dive into current issues but a historical bent,
Ologies, so entertaining a talk with scientists and flip fun,
The Axe files, political
Fall of Civilizations,
Were you Raised by Wolves?, etiquette and fun,
99% Invisible, about design,
Dan Carlin, ExtremeHistory
Gastropod, about food
Dressed, about fashion history,
Snap Judgement, my favorite of all time, urban stories with a kick
Cabinet of Curiosities, weird stuff

I’m a podcast addict!

Fuckbois of Literature, The Worst Bestsellers, The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast, Major League Eventing are some current favs.

Another vote for 99% Invisible, which I’ve really been enjoying lately.

The Dollop is entertaining though it can be a little more political and hit or miss for me.

So man good podcasts already listed. I’m a true crime nut too, and sometimes being along in a dark barn just is not the right time to learn about the inner workings of Ted Bundy’s mind LOL. When I need a break from true crime I usually turn to:

Business wars (wondery) is fun and educational about feuds between competing businesses (Mars v Hershey, Macys V Gimbals etc) its told in a charming story-like manner and the episodes run about 25 min each

Every Little Thing - similar to Ungeniused, Its a call-based show that answers general questions like “who made the cha-cha slide” “who made cheese?” some a pretty fun and enlightening trivia.

Masters of Scale - interviews with business leaders on how they built their successful businesses

You Must Remember this - old golden age of hollywood tales

Throwing Shade – popculture

I also have a few reality TV based ones that I follow depending on the show they are recapping.

Swindled is a good one - not scary, it’s about crappy human beings and how they got caught. I am fussy about hosts - I want it to sound like a story being read to me, not unscripted garbage full of giggles and off topic rants.

Doing chores alone at night in a “secluded, set back in the woods” barn is a setup to become the VICTIM of “True Crime!” Ditch the earbuds until you’re in the house with the door locked, and keep a good dog with you who’ll let you know if the wrong kind of man or beast is ever advancing on you. I’d consider carrying in a place like that.

Handling horses or riding should NEVER be done while distracted by media. Splitting your attention away from the animal you’re working means you’re going to miss something distracting HIM–and you’ll find out this just happened when the wreck is already in progress.

Save “podcasts” for mindless chores like washing dishes or ironing.
