I have a Trakehner mare in foal to Tinka’s Boy who is approved Selle Francais, Hanoverian, & AES according to the info I was given, although I also see that he is KWPN. How can I register the foal? Breeding the mare to the stallion of our choice was more important that registering the foal, but it would be nice. Seems like I’ve spent many hours trying to figure it out to no avail. Guessing that many of you on this list will know! Thanks
surprised no one has answered…I’m NOT an expert but I would think that you could present your mare with the foal at her side to either AHS or ISR/OLD N.A… If she is approved and the foal approved they could be registered with them.
At least with OLD NA you may need to get a breeding permit for the stallion but since he is approved by several registries, I doubt it will be an issue. I’ve done it several times. They are very easy to deal with. Not sure about AHS but since the sire is already approved Hanovarian, I wouldn’t think you need to do anything special other than get your mare approved. They are a bit tougher on outside mares.
I have one mare approved with a couple of registries so I always have a choice depending on who I bred the mare to. I have one colt this year by a Trak stallion out of my TB mare but since there were no Trak inspections any where near me to get the mare approved, I went with a different registry.
ETA: You could also look into registering her with SF in the USA? See their rules here–since she is approved with another registry you would have to submit her inspection scores etc. http://www.ansf-us.com/rules--regulations.html
Thanks BornFree. I took a look at the OLD NA, and it states: The Registry is the only North American breed organization whose high standards require the physical inspection and evaluation of all stallions and mares as well for all foals. All inspections are conducted by approved (licensed) and independent breeding judges.
The stallion isn’t in the US, so there is no way for me to take him to a physical inspection. In this day of international breeding w. frozen semen, it seems odd to have to have the stallion at an inspection. Maybe I’m misunderstanding though.
Selle Francais looks possible if the mare was inspected and her scores are available to submit.
Then, if I’m understanding the KWPN-NA rules, because Trakehner is a Erkund studbook, the foal could be registered with them in a main book? But only if Tinka’s Boy is approved with KWPN…which I don’t know that he is… See, my head is swimming again.
I’ve used stallions that stand in Germany and Ireland using frozen semen. I believe that reference is for stallions approved by them. For a breeding permit, they just need to be approved by other recognzied registries, DNA typed etc. (and you pay more). It wasn’t hard to do at all.
Oldenburg/NA may well give you permission to use the stallion, but they have a very high outside stallion fee ($300), and you will have to provide DNA. If the stallion is approved AHS you can present the mare to them for approval, assuming the office accepts the pedigree. Email the AHS office for a review of her pedigree. Another option is GOV. Contact that office to see if the mare is acceptable, as they will accept any stallion approved by a major European registry, with a $100 foreign stallion fee.
