What Stallion for a Welsh Cob/Tb Mare?

I’d like to finally breed this mare next year but can’t decide to which stallion.

I’d like to add some trot and build a more uphill canter with more stride length while maintaining the jump. I have considered TBs like Comet Shine or Coconut Grove and have also considered warmbloods that are mostly TB like Mighty Magic. More recently I’ve looked at some horses with less tb such as Veron and I do love Escudo II but I’m not sure if that would work. Any suggestions?

I love the idea of Escudo II. I have everything you’re asking for in my E II filly out of my Arabian mare. Big free trot, up hill at everything, plus she has a wonderful gallop that didn’t come from momma bunny hopper ;). E II is also a very good type for your mare, he’s often used for refining. Good choice for the smaller mare.

Pics of my E II filly.

No idea, but what a super cool little mare!

Are you breeding for another event horse for yourself? Maybe contact someone like Denny Emerson who does a lot of breeding and seems very approachable?

Love seeing a pony cross hony out running Prelim!

This is my Connemara X Appendix that I just moved up to Prelim: http://www.fadetogreyfarm.com/geldings/sparrows_owen . He’s 15.1

I have his sister: http://www.fadetogreyfarm.com/mares/sparrows_tiptoes . She had a filly by *ArdCeltic Art this year that I’m really pleased with, and she’s in foal to Salute the Truth for 2012. I was supposed to breed her to Comet Shine (had her booked, and ready to breed twice) and I never got semen. If you would like to know details please pm me, but I would not suggest dealing with that farm.

I would suggest looking at TB stallions the maintain the speed and endurance. A Fine Romance would be worth considering, he’s on my short list.

WOW - your mare is FRIGGIN AMAZING!!! She looks like a machine and I LOVE her form over fences (sorry, ex hunter princess here  You too look like a GREAT pair.

Love that the Welsh Cob gave her huge/great feet and good bone, but it looks like she also took alot after her TB side, if she can gallop and jump like that.

I agree with A Fine Romance for TB, because I’d try to keep alot of blood in the mix if you are focusing on Eventing Prelim and UP. Of course there are tons of WBs who are well over 50%, sometimes over 75% blood, so you can certainly go that route too.

Sorry I’m not much help on suggestions, I’m mostly chiming in because I LOVE unconvential breeds (Cob/TB) kicking butt and taking numbers. You guys really look great!
