What the heck are these? Teeth?

A local riding facility went out of business and I bought a bunch of stuff from them. One of the boxes had conch shells (who doesn’t like beach decor?). But when I went digging through the box I found these…. Molds?? I don’t know what they are.
Also found in the box were horse baby cap teeth. So I feel like they might have something to do with that.
They are really fragile and feel like plaster.

What the heck did I find in this box….

Yes…equine teeth or at least pieces of teeth. I moved barns in November, I found a couple pieces of molars from my horse. One a half of a ‘colt cap’ and one a slab she broke off a molar several years ago. I finally let them go :yum: (I am 66).

Yep, super old, dried out horse teeth.

The thing I’m confused about is they are so chalky.
These are the ones the mini mule spat out/got pulled recently, for reference

Ya’ know, polished up and with a hole drilled in it, that would make a really cool charm on a leather thong necklace. I mean, for horse people.

I know. They are smooth and kind of pretty.
Is it weird that I have a jar of baby horse teeth :joy:

my step-sister had two widsom teeth removed. She made necklaces out of them by wrapping wire around them and putting the stud in the wire. They looked pretty cool.

I said this once and my trainer thought I was nuts! The vet was happy that I wanted them; she said, kind of sadly, “I usually offer them to people and they say no.” :joy:

There’s a woman in Ontario who makes little carvings out of horse teeth.

My gelding is 12 now, I wasn’t there when he had to have a couple teeth pulled as a young horse. My mom kept the teeth without telling me.
Last year she gave me a one of those teeth, carved into a little horse. I turned it into a stock tie pin and wear it in the derbies and classics.

It is weird that they are so white.

There are ppl who make carved jewelry and stuff from horse teeth. The pattern can look really neat.

I brought some pulled teeth to school for our “collection.” Lab manager was totally skeezed out. People trained in plant ecology apparently don’t do teeth. How dull it must be.

If I remember correctly, my horse put her teeth under a bush and the horse tooth fairy came and left carrots…

Maybe from a place that did not feed sugar.

Tooth caps make for great jewelry. I made one and get lots of compliments on it. Most people think it’s wood or some kind of stone.

I really want to see the look on their face when you tell them it’s a tooth

:joy:, it’s either “”eww”, “aww” or utter confusion. I still love it though lol.

Left out in the sun, they will bleach white.

I would guess it’d be like carving bone or maybe ivory (?).

Of course if I wore a horse tooth necklace my non-horsey family members would either think I’d gone totally over the brink or that I’d become a witch.

This is what it looks like. No one would know it’s a tooth unless you told them.

That’s beautiful! Reminds me of animal fetishes made by Native Americans.
