What to do in or near Durham NC?

I made a spur of the moment decision to visit my son this weekend so I am heading to Durham NC for Sunday through Tuesday. Since he will be in classes, I have some time to fill.

What are some fun things I should do while down there?

I have several hours Sunday afternoon, Monday morning until noon and Tuesday morning until 1pm.

Suggestions please!

Thanks in advance!

Depends on what you like to do, but Duke has a beautiful campus and garden, Chapel Hill/ Carrboro has nice downtown to walk/ shop/ eat, Durham Bulls start their season this week I think, lots of hiking/ kayaking/ swimming at Jordan Lake, Umstead State Park, Falls Lake, Museum of Art in Raleigh, if you have a car and want to drive a little further horse farm oggling in Southern Pines is fun (downtown is cute as well as is neighbor town Pinehurst), Dover Saddlery in Raleigh, botanical gardens in Chapel Hill (there is another one is Raleigh I have yet to visit but am told is super), drive to Saxapawhaw to eat at the General Store and walk along the Haw River…do you need more?

Duke gardens will be starting to look great about now. They have a newish art museum (the Nasher). Check out 9th St. Drive towards Chapel Hill for breakfast or lunch or brunch at Foster’s market…

The Lemur Center at Duke is awesome, Natural Science Museum is really nice as well. Durham has some pretty good food trucks for lunch. The Fearrington House in Chapel Hill is outstanding food as well.

Thanks!

I just visited the Nasher and took a lovely walk through Duke gardens.

Off to find food!

Museum of Science and Life is fun. You can visit the Eno for nice trails, picnic areas, etc. Take in a movie at the Carolina Theater (my favorite). Have a beer at Full Steam. The American Tobacco campus is great and nice to walk through (plus there is food, other fun things to do there).

We live right in downtown and love it. The food is incredible.

Recommendations…

Pizzeria Toro, Bull McCabe’s, The Parlor, Monuts, Elmo’s, Bull City Burger and Brewery, Geer Street, the list goes on.

Have fun!

Definitely the Lemur Center!

Meander through the American Tobacco Campus area and 9th Street. Mexican food from Gonza Tacos y Tequila (trust me, best Mexican you’ll EVER eat). Monuts for dessert or if you’re feeling like froyo, Local Yogurt is owned by a local horsewoman and she’s lovely so I like supporting her business. Dane’s on 9th street has tater tots as a side! Vaguely Reminiscent is fun to shop.

MONUTS!

LOVE Durham!
