What to do with engagement ring at the barn?

Wearing jewellery and particularly rings when working is a dangerous thing to do. My ex was once dangling from a gutter because his ring got caught. Luckily, for him, he didn’t loose his finger.

Exactly…wearing gloves will protect it. I’ve worn mine for 30 years while doing all sorts of barn chores and getting my ass bucked off. Check the points yearly and you’re good to go.

I always wear mine. I wear gloves when I ride & cleaning stalls

Congratulations!!!

I keep my engagement ring at the house when I’m riding. As much as I love wearing it and enjoying the sparkle, I would hate to lose it. I do wear my wedding ring all the time, but also wear gloves while riding, etc.

My husband and I picked out a ring that was lifestyle friendly.

<meh> I wear my high-set engagement ring all the time. It’s insured with an umbrella policy and I did have to replace the diamond once–i hadn’t noticed that the prongs were worn.
Or consider talking with your finace (Congrats, by the way!) about trading it in for a ring with a flush setting, so you could wear it more safely, more of the time. It’s not like you’re saying “I don’t like it”

If you’re going to take it off frequently, definitely make sure you choose ONE PLACE to put it, and never leave it anywhere else. If the band is thin, also be careful handling any pitch forks, yard tools, etc. or lifting things with it on as I have bent more bands that way than anything else!

I wear my wedding ring 24/7, it only comes off when I shower and when I make bread. But the band and setting are fairly sturdy and a bit wider, and I generally wear gloves when riding or doing yard work. I would not be happy wearing one of those silicone rings, but that’s a personal choice.

I wear a diamond eternity band full time. I bought it as an anniversary ring.

My ring is insured bit insurance can’t replace the sentiment of it being the ring he proposed with, so I don’t wear it unless I know I can keep it safe.

I don’t care if I have to replace a stone in the eternity band but I would be sad if anything happened to the ring my husband picked for me.

I would not wear it when at the barn. Maybe get an inexpensive ring that looks similar and wear it at the barn. I never wear my official wedding ring set around the house or barn. My DH bought me a lessor quality diamond that I wear with a thin matching band for at home and out in the barn.

I never wore it when with the horses. I also never wear my wedding ring since we farm for a living. In fact I don’t even wear it at all now since I never think about it. Could have saved some money on both purchases!

My ring is actually the leather keeper off a bridle. I have tiny fingers…

One time I was washing my horse’s pasterns for a show and got the edge of the heel of her shoe under my ring. It was a freak thing but I almost lost my ring finger. Eeeek! I’d love to say I stopped wearing it to the barn that day but that’d be a lie. I don’t wear my wedding band because I lost a stone but my engagement ring has a low setting. It’s filthy but I love it!

I was riding a young horse in a grass field many years ago. She still didn’t really know where her feet were. We were trotting along when she tripped and went to her knees. I came off and I landed on my left hand. It deformed the ring and cut my finger. I immediately stuck my hand in a cold bucket of water to try to keep it from swelling but it was August so it was already bit swollen. We tried oil and Palmolive to try to slide it off. I had to call my husband to come cut the engagement band and wedding band off.I lost 2 small stones out of one of the rings. I have never worn a ring at the barn since.

I never wear mine for fear of losing a stone (even with it being insured) or having it get caught on something and take my finger along with it.

I wear Qalo rings instead, they are cheap and made of silicone and stretch without breaking and are super easy to clean. The best part is that they don’t interfere with the reins, or give me blisters when I ride like my wedding band and engagement ring do. Funny enough, the Qalo ring is so comfortable that I often forget I have it on and forget to put my wedding band and engagement ring back on when I’m away from the barn.

TAKE IT OFF - Not worth having to replace, or losing a finger. Also, I’ve seen them scratch leather, which is just annoying. I wear a leather band. I think it’s prettier than the silicone, and they break if caught

Like many others, I suggest not wearing it to the barn at all. I have a heirloom engagement ring, a valuable and gorgeous Art-Deco type work from the 1920s, and just. don’t. wear it to the barn, ever. It has a place at home. (On those rare occasions when I’ve forgotten to take it off, and end up at the barn, it has a place in my car.)

It’s for DH as much as me; it came from one of his grandmothers and he’d just be crushed if I lost it.

Mine’s insured and it has a very rugged setting. Its actually my grandmothers ring and I specifically wanted it because its so protcted.
Yes I would be horrified if I lost the stone, but I know myself and if I took it off I would either lose it or just never bother to put it back on

We talked engagement and engagement rings for a long while before I decided it was unsafe to wear the type I wanted at the barn (both for me b/c I’m a full time horse person and for the ring haha). Since I couldn’t wear it, I told him not to buy one. We just got married Tuesday and I’m not wearing any ring! But I didn’t change my name either. And no ceremony. Guess we’re practical. haha Anyway, he has a silicon ring. He tried Qalo first but it annoyed him, so now he’s trying Groove. He really loves the Groove ring. My two cents!

Congradulatons on your engagement.
Please leave the ring at home, rings and horse do not mix.
Losing a stone is nothing compared to the danger of getting a ring caught and having your finger pulled off by a frisky horse.
Your fiance will understand.m

So glad to hear this! I started wearing my ring to the farm when I first got engaged/married. Although fully insured and under warranty, it gets scratched, dinged and tarnished. They know me on a first name basis at the jewelry store because of all the repairs I’ve needed. I spent the $30 on a silicone ring and have been much happier since. DH is happy too! LOL!
