He was lying in the driveway with an injured leg. He’s not THAT young - I think we’ve seen him on the feeder with mom or dad feeding him seeds. Any ideas? Caroline is using an eye dropper to get water into him.
Honestly, birds are about impossible unless you are VERY experienced. It’s best to track down a rehabber. The little buggers will sit there and be fine for 24 hours and then fall over dead. It’s very easy for them to aspirate stuff too, so you have to be really careful and not forcefeed anything. I’d hit google and see if you can find someone in your area.
Call is in to the Raptor Trust in Millington. I’m just concerned with keeping him alive until we get him there in the morning.
Be very careful…a woman in, I think it was Virginia, was given a $545 ticket for violating the migratory bird act after she save a baby woodpecker from a cat and nursed it back to health. ???
mealworms. But get him to the rehabber when you can.

Yes, that happened in Fredericksburg, VA.
Here’s the infuriating story (however, it was ruled yesterday that the woodpecker rescuer won’t have to pay the fine):

Soaked dry dog food works well in a pinch. Gets protein and moisture into them.
