What was said about Ingrid that was so insulting ?

Saw a few posts from Germany today about rude comments regarding her cc ride. Must have been really unkind but often interpretation can be an issue. Ideas anyone???

Were the comments based on something the US commentators said or German commentators?

Could be that most of us never even heard the “rude” comment.

No was a comment from someone I know a bit in Germany w many agreements about needing a new commentator and being very rude. As she is one of the best the comment prob came from an uninformed commentator I hope. Just cannot imagine. Horse sports really require very knowledgeable commentary as do all these sports really.

well, WHICH commentators? the US, the NBC live feed, BBC, Canada … Germany?

But Hadley did make a reference to her having been around for a while, then quickly caveated himself by saying he wasn’t saying how old she was…

I did think it was kind of ridiculous since Mark Todd had gone not too long before that and much ado was made over his experience and longevity… you know, his AGE. It was just another example about how people trip over themselves to deal with issues they wouldn’t think twice about when it comes to men, but at least this one wasn’t dissing her abilities, just practically falling all over themselves to not call her … old

Realize the some cultures (and some people) are just more sensitive than others about the idea of women being “old.” Personally, I think my 92 year old, German born mother and my 60+ year old self have aged rather well, thank you very much. We’re just the wiser and better for being “aged” and I view Ingrid the same way.

Surely it wasn’t that, was it? She has been around a long time. That’s not an insult.

Ingrid Klimke is one of the few true, true horsemen (women) a rarity and like Michael Jung somebody I look up to. From the days of her father, I’ve admired her and him. You don’t get that until you’ve had time to grow and mature.

Welll I did go back and say for us Americans who can’t see article what’s the deal. Apparently said by a German commenter. They’re absolutely furious over it. So felt would be rude to ask since I sorta did. His response was a rude comment by a " mentally deranged" German commentator. Ouch!!!

well at least we can confirm Hadley is NOT a mentally deranged German commentator!

It was a bit awkward though. It was a bit like reverse sexism, in that he was trying so hard not to offend and all I could think is what was the big deal? But hey, at least he didn’t contribute her success to her husband, so we are ahead of the game, not only in having the only sport where women compete with men and in overall acceptance of that reality.

But really, the Germans have a bit of a history when it comes to dragging their heels on the issue of women competing on their teams coughcoughmeradithcoughcough

There was a comment on the U.S. live coverage about ingrid always dropping the ball in stadium. Not sure if that’s what it was about.

The male commentator for USA network was really awful. I don’t know who it was. At least 3 times he said “there’s a replay” when a horse had a refusal at a completely different jump and then corrected himself… He talked for a while about Bruce (mighty nice’s owner) having just passed away this june… kept calling horses by the wrong name (Tom Bombadil, not tombadil… among others). It was hard to pay attention and not be annoyed by him.

He also said something about the horses having grease on “some of their hocks.” How many does he think they have?

From what I understand, the rude comments were made on German TV by a commentator called Carsten Sostmeier about Julia Krajewski, not about Klimke.

She had a bad cross country and he basically insulted her riding ability with some very questionable descriptions. I don’t know what exactly he said, but it seems to have been way out of line because a lot of horsey people in Germany are really angry about it.

Oh that makes sense…saw that name mentioned. Yes people were very angry calling for a firing of said ninny.

Oh dear found the translation…what an idiot. Said she must have had a brown line in her pants from the start of the course. After a water refusal he said horse will never go now and she will take basically the coward pale nosed path??? Google translate thanks! Also after her finish when going to the interview he sai now we will see what the blond has to say. So out of line he had to apologize officially. WTF. Why hire him. He def must speak worse off camera. Wow so little class there. It crosses all cultures truly.

The replay comments were making me nuts! He really seemed to have very little idea about what he was saying. Can we not get some educated commentary, or skip the commentary altogether?

I’m late to the :mad:party; What happens tomorrow:confused:?
