What will make you comfortable enough to show again?

There’s a thread about the show that happened last week on the H/J forum. A bit of mixed reviews on people consistently wearing masks in the stabling areas. And it sounded like groups were doing normal socializing in the evenings.

Nope. There are plenty of asymptomatic carriers out there. Too many people have sent me ridiculous conspiracy theory videos about this virus. I see too many people posting how this virus is blown out of proportion.

There is no way that I’m going to risk my family, farrier, vet, neighbors, or community by going anywhere that is not essential until most people have been vaccinated. I am perfectly fine working in my indoor or outside this year, and letting the horse trailer sit where it’s parked.

I would participate in a virtual show. The money saved from travel costs would pay for a video set up. At least the scores would tell me where I’m at with my horse. I don’t care about the ribbon. The USDF should gather a group of judges willing to view submitted tests and score them. No awards needed, just the score sheet with feedback. This would work for the people who are looking for validation, but not for awards/medals/rankings.

Yes that show is on. You can sign up on the showsecretary website. There is a special letter from the show manager on the website with rules that must be followed.

I was checking out this website today and it may be an option for what you’re looking for. I’d love to see anyone’s feedback video if they have tried it…

Link to show was 2019. Here is the 2020: https://www.showsecretary.com/2020PL/2020HDS_June.pdf

The possibility that anyone with this appallingly self centered attitude would attend a horse show, should make anyone that is even considering showing to have an immediate re-think. It’s bad enough that people like this are in the grocery store/pharmacy, where most of us have to go.

You forget “Analyzing the situation carefully, thinking for oneself, and deciding for oneself”

Thank you.

I fail to understand your logic that it’s “self-centered” to believe that it’s a low risk to go to horse show. If that low risk is still too high for you, nobody will force you. If you think it’s low risk enough for you, won’t you be just like us with “self centered attitude?”

What about the risk to others? I don’t know where you’ve been, what you’ve been up to, and who you’ve been up to it with–I don’t need your asymptomatic virus shedding or the risk to hundreds of people (i.e., everyone who goes to the show and everyone they will be in contact with and everyone their contacts will be in contact with…). Who in their right mind would go stay in a motel right now anyway? Will judges be there in person or refuse to take the in person risk? This is so crazy to me. I am an in an essential business (health) and we are teleworking indefinitely, and DEFINITELY through June. Why would I do some nonessential thing when my employer doesn’t think it’s safe to come into work? While some are bitching about the fact that some nonessential businesses are being forced to close–what do you think will happen if everyone who staffs the essential businesses gets sick?

Your ignorance regarding the COVID virus is astounding. It’s a bonus for everyone around you that you aren’t a judge or an official, or anyone else with any authoritay. I’m glad that you aren’t competing. I get the feeling that you have not been in competition at a horse show and that if you have, it has not been a USEF show because if you had, you would know better.

For me, the thought of encountering anyone with your point of view in person is horrifying.

I am well masked and taking precautions, like everyone else does in the grocery store and other essential public places, because we have educated ourselves about the virus and because we care about the lives of other human beings.

Of course you would not be allowed, in the county where I live, to enter the local grocery or the post office etc… if you didn’t wear a mask. Thank god.

Among the “zero-risk” (non-team) sports: Golf, Tennis, equestrian and sailing.

So there!

For the shows that are happening regardless, if people do pick up covid at a show, even if an actual outbreak is identified with a show by the health authorities, it would be very helpful to know that. But somehow I doubt that the necessary contacts & communications are in place for us ever to know if an actual horse show became an actual transmission point.

If the necessary arrangements and agreements were in place, these shows could at least serve as a test study for covid transmission at an outdoor event / horse show. But I doubt that kind of follow-through is happening.

Sure, when you are actually doing the sport. Everything else that goes along with it is a much higher risk.

The USEF Required and recommended procedures state that offenders can be removed fromthe showgrounds by management and the TD . WOuldnt that be a scene…

Here in north central Florida we ahve shows scheduled in June at Tampa, Newberry (just switched form Jacksonville), and Grand Oaks (Weirsdale, just east of Ocala), and in Ocala. July is likewise full of shows.

And I posted a link to the USEF protocols back a page or so ago. Those are the guidelines. There is also a new two page waiver/release added to the entry form by USEF.

I knwo that the Regional Directors have been discussing the remainder of the season, and Regionals… etc.

I recently moved to a new state and was planning to take this year off from showing anyway. I’m a loner at shows…haul in and out, no entourage, no trainer, just me and my horse. Even so, I wouldn’t risk it. It’s not that important to me to take a chance with my health.

Yes, until we have a vaccine, a test and a treatment and AVAILABLE TO ALL. Until then, stay at home!

Yep. Nevermind other countries don’t run shows with the “hurry up and wait” mentality we do in the states.

sorry, thought this was H/J thread, but same applies. There are still lots of people congregating at shows.

Given that shows are likely to be run as “haul in, ride your test and get outta Dodge”, I feel pretty safe. Sadly, this would only work for very local events…

If this show season is scrubbed, all these arguments are moot anyway.

There is already one person in my area who has gotten COVID-19 while at the country club playing golf. So these sports don’t come with zero risk unless there are no other people with whom one interacts.
