What’s been your sweetest, most memorable gift for a horse (or any loved animal)?
A very dear horse in his prime just lost to a dear friend. Snipped some mane and tail and want to do something special for her and knew who to come ask.

For one dear family horse that all the kids rode, I did a horse tail bracelet for each. Sorry to say that all but two lost theirs . . .one kept it in her horse trailer to wear when she was on course, but it somehow was lost . . .another lost it in a move. Therefore, when the long time, most successful show horse we owned died, I did a “memory box” for my daughter who owned him that included his leather halter with his award plates on it from his trophies; a section of tail neatly braided and tied with his event colors; one of his last set of shoes cleaned and clear coated so it wouldn’t rust, a beautiful framed photo of him, his stall name plate and his saddle plate. She has a small house, so I think a shadow box would have taken up too much wall space. The memory box could be put any place, and the memories enjoyed.
We had kept up scrapbooks for him (the old kind with pasted in photos, for years, so that wasn’t something I wanted to do.
When my dog died, my sister came over and helped me put in a garden in his memory. All the plants were tied to him in some way —weeping fig, dog wood, variegated grasses (he was a brindle), and we set a stone in the garden with his name on it. That was 20+ years ago and I still think of him when I work in that garden that has grown quite lovely.
I do a little oil painting --mostly for myself --but I have done paintings of favorite horses for people (commissioned pieces from their friends) usually using a favorite place as a background. I did one small 6 x6 inch painting for a lady of a foal that died shortly after birth --but mostly they are older horses . . .
Thank you for sharing all those special ideas. That garden sounds like quite the spot.
I am not a jewelry person, so when I lost my guy I looked for something else. He was a paint, The mane and tail that I had were bi-colored, and she made a figure that has his exact markings and mane and tail color pattern.Etsy - Horse Figure It looks just like him and sits on my desk to this day. As an added bonus, if the figure isn’t what you are looking for she also makes horse hair bracelets, earrings, bookmarks, tassels, etc.
A good friend just lost her very special mare. I know a person who does very nice pencil drawings for a fair price. I had one of those done for my friend, I think she will really like it.
I’m a picture person so a framed picture of horse with their person would always be a great thing for me.
Her work is incredible. So many unique and stunning ideas. I’ll spend time here for sure. Thank you!
A custom drawing is a wonderful gift and great idea. For sure to be treasured.
You just can’t go wrong with a beautifully framed picture. I have lots of pictures too. Thanks for sharing.
