What's in style??

English rider hoping to be able to at least look the part when I go play a little in the western world. What brands of jeans are in style and is there anything that I would get made fun of for wearing?
Thanks so much!!

Check some of the western on line tack shops, what they are selling is likely what is in fashion.

National Ropers Supply
Rods Western
Smith Brothers (owned by Dover)

Änd beware, some of that bling on the back pockets is prone to scratching saddles.

BLING is definately in style.

You don’t often see the “classic high waist Wranglers” much anymore. But if you want to wear them, rock 'em and go.

Some people like to wear skinny jeans with their boots (so the boots go over the top of the jeans).

Some barrel racers are bringing back the colored jeans.

Honestly, there’s really a wide variety right now. I can’t think of anything or anyone that would make fun of you for what you are wearing. We aren’t like those English riders!! (Couldn’t help myself… All in good fun. )

From what I can tell reading here, different breeds have different styles.

I think knowing what type of showing you intend to do may apply to the type of style you would want to follow.

Any of the Ariat western style jeans, along with things like the Wrangler Q-baby jeans.

The darker the better. If you’re going to show in them, make sure your jeans go OVER your boots. Some of the barrel racers do it the other way, but if you’re doing any rail or performance classes, boots inside of jeans.

Kimes Ranch

What’s in style is totally dependent on what type of “western” you will be doing. At QH or Paint shows what you wear will be different than open shows or Arab shows, for example. Reining? Cattle penning or sorting? Speed events? What breed? It’s not as simple as you might think!

I actually don’t think there is that much variation until you get in the show pen. Outside the ring the styles are pretty similar. This year I was at all major stock breed shows as well as US Arabian Nationals.

Bling is less. Still there but less. Square toe boots are still in and probably going to stay. They have narrowed a bit in the last few years but round is not making a comeback as of yet.

QH/Paint reining type shows: Betty Longhorn Jeans for competition.
Speed Events: Miss Me’s for sure, Grace in La also cool, occasionally Adiktd, Cowgirl Tuff, and Cruel Girl
Western Pleasure/Horsemanship type stuff: You don’t wear jeans, or you wear black Wranglers
Work/Casual/Anytime your around the show grounds: Anything with bling…
At least where I live, you can never go wrong with sparkly Miss Me’s ever…
If you want something more sturdy yet still “in style” get Cowgirl Tuff or Adiktd (these last forever, and are actually available at Mary’s Tack and Feed)
You can wear Wranglers IF they are the women’s style Booty-Up/Q-Baby, but those aren’t really considered to fancy.
Cruel Girl are kinda considered the hard work, goat tyer, older lady jean.
If you have suede on your saddle, don’t really worry too much about damaging your saddle, but do not ride in your English saddle with your newly bedazzled hind end.
The latest look, is kind of a Southwestern type thing, so stuff with chevron/southwestern inspired bling is uber cool.
Ariat ain’t that cool, unless it’s for actual riding/practicing.
All of the bling stuff I wrote considering you would be at the show grounds perhaps jumping on to ride, all the other “durable” stuff you can ride in and no one will bat an eye you just won’t be the “cool kid”, the Longhorn Betty are supposed to be THE jean for cow horse/reining competitors. Grace in La and Miss Me’s have a ton of options but aren’t super durable, but they are super, super soft, I would try these if you are used to breeches and don’t usually like jeans. Grace’s are also cheaper than Miss Me’s but not as cool.

For show stuff, look ar You tube videos of the classes at your breed’s biggest show for the year.

The Betty jeans the other poster is referring to are Kimes Ranch. They are the thing right now as she said. At AQ shows as well.
