What do fox hunters put in their flasks in warmer climates? In NY where it is cold we use port wine. What do they use south of the Mason Dixon line?
At my hunt they serve mimosas at checks. I rarely carry a flask, although I know some do.
*note to self, start hunting in Florida where they serve mimosas at checks!
I am just barely south of the Mason Dixon, and most of our flasks are filled with regular whiskey, caramel whiskey, or fireball whiskey. Our hunt likes their whiskey!
Way south of the Mason Dixon here.
The hunt I used to ride with served jello shots at checks and most of the flasks were filled with whiskey. I know of one or two that went with port wine.

Bourbon.
Actually, there are a number who carry juice boxes, and/or lemonade or Gatorade in the flask, during the warmer months. Not much fun to keel over from dehydration.
When it’s cold, I like whisky and amaretto mixed.
So i’m curious, who serves the drinks at checks, and how do they know where to find you? We have a master who hilltops in a truck, but often our checks are in areas not accessible by vehicle (and difficult to access by horse!). Do you have checks specifically to serve drinks?
Yeah, I am all over this serving drinks at checks!! Is this every weekend hunt?? We get that at Opening and Closing hunt but we are on our own all the months inbetween.
My flask has Tawny Port in it. I enjoy trying all my buddies different potions!
Most members of our hunt have port in their flasks, but I have 15 year old rum. Some will have bourbon or even moonshine!
We typically have mimosas for our stirrup cup and also for tailgating afterward.
The mimosas are served every hunt! The day I hosted breakfast, my fiancé and I rode in the truck with the joint master and we’re the designated servers of mimosas. My fondest memory of hunting was the Wednesday before Christmas it was only me, my field master, her son, the master and the whips. My field master, her son and I were handed a bottle of champagne by the joint master in the truck and we just passed it between us drinking straight from the bottle. Ahhh…good times.
Bloody mary and screwdrivers at the checks, schnapps in the flask

One of our members insists that jello shots be in our hunt colors.
I’m well north now so it’s straight bourbon, but when I hunted down south it was gin rickeys!
It’s been a long time, but back in the day it was always a Sazerac…mmmm.

Lots of Tawny Port, but an occasional Peach Schnapps or a mixture of sorts. In August Cubbing, it may be frozen gatoraide, that thaws when you ride, haha!
This season I mixed Apple Pie Liqueur with 94 proof rum. That was yummy.
Currently WinterJack. After it leaves the stores then sweet tea vodka with mint!

I am hosting a New Orleans based dinner and we will have a punchbowl of Sazerac!
