Could have been before that… it’s just when I started trying to get on.
No, its every morning. Eastern time, anyway. Its the old board back again. 
For me, the pages don’t want to load.
I just pull up the NY Times…by the time I’m done reading it, I might get a page up here.
I assume they’re doing maintenance or something in the early morning hours, but it’s every morning…
This is just it. What’s with this every morning business? If they needed to back up and cull out stuff, they could do it in one late night stint.
It just feels anti social for them to knowingly tie up the board every morning at the time many people are logging on before their day starts, when it could be done in the early morning hourse when few people are online.
And its not brief. Its anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half, about from 6:30 to 8:30 every morning. That’s a lot of time and it was the same with the old board, so this isn’t to be blamed on the software. It has to be a corporate decision, and I am surprised at the poor customer service attitude it reflects.
Too bad.
Ah, it’s always fun to see people complaining about the performance of a free board – one that is reportedly one of the largest/busiest on the web, period, not just among horse sites – when they are neither a premium member OR a Chronicle subscriber. :winkgrin:
AnotherRound, trust me, we did not set up the maintenance of the board with the express purpose of messing up your morning. Really.
This board gets an average of about 2,000 new posts a day. During work hours on weekdays, we average about 500 people online at any given time. We get about 120 new users every week, and about 4,500 registered users visit in a given week. So far today, the BB has had almost 1,700 unique visitors. There are currently 47,000 stored threads, over 1.1 million stored posts, and we have 30,000 registered members.
The board is HUGE and it is BUSY. And all of that data has to be backed up every day, lest something go wrong and 30,000 people start screaming because their post counts are wrong, or the thread they started yesterday has disappeared and is gone forever. (Not that anyone here would be bothered by such a silly thing, of course. 
)
There are two backups run daily – one at 2 AM Eastern, and the other at 5 AM Eastern. Both run for several hours, and during that time, fewer people will be able to use the board. They are slower when old topics haven’t been pruned for a while, and we are overdue on that, but since it’s a process I have to babysit somewhat, it has to wait until I have time to do it.
If you are having trouble, try back later in the day when the backup is finished.
I sign on every morning and never have a problem…
