Simple as that. I’m trying to decide and can’t make my decision.
Black is classic… but I do love brown. What color is your horse?? I think that matters.
Brown! Coming from a hunter and jumper background, black tack just looks wrong to me.
He’s a bay paint, I believe an overo. I can’t figure out how to upload a photo.
I’m sort of leaning towards a brown saddle, I like the uniqueness! Only problem is, the rest of my stuff is black. So it would take quite a bit to get new tack and boots
The fiscally responsible reply would be to stay with black to match your other tack and boots.
The fun reply would be that this sounds like a great excuse to go shopping!
I love black and brown mixed. My saddle is black with a rich brown piping, my stirrup leathers on the black saddle are the same brown as my piping, I used a brown girth that just fit him until I could find a used one in his size and that was black. My bridle is black with brown padding and piping that match the saddle and my boots are black with brown croc accents. So I say both. My Boy is bright bay with chrome.

Very, very true. Shopping for new tack is soooo exciting. My bank account may disagree, though. Thought provoking…
What a flashy fellow! I think both colors would look great on him, so you can’t lose—no matter what you decide.
That sounds like it looks fantastic!!! I wish I had the money to custom make a saddle like that. My jumping saddle is both brown and black and I LOVE it. I’ll keep an eye out for a used dressage saddle that’s a mix of both but it’s not likely I’ll find one.
Agh, the conundrum continues. Thankfully I have time to decide before I order one. Thank you so much, by the way! He’s a good boy
I prefer brown tack but for a bay pinto I’d use black. More orthodox and besides it will match the black in his mane and tail.
Handsome boy!
Definitely a black-tack guy.
Alternative opinion: you’ve already got an unconventionally colored (for dressage) horse, so you’ve got full license do do whatever you want.
Signed,
Brown. Especially on palominos.
Your vote has been duly noted and I am now realizing this was probably not a great idea because EVERYONE is convincing.
Omg that’s a gorgeous horse and a spectacular saddle! I love that! Thank you!
My guy is the paint further up, but brown is noted!
