That’s the message! I know when the horseflys are out and when the midges are busy, but don’t know about the biters. Thanks.
I know in the Pacific NW, we have bugs we don’t usually have until Late summer because of our super mild winter.
Midge flies DO bite. They are the cause of sweet itch. They have a grand old time getting inside horses ears and biting them crazy. They are out in full force, in my area, as I write this:)
I’m asking about the nasty little flys that look like mini house flys, and especially like the midline of the belly. Sorry I wasn’t clear. The midges here work dawns and dusks; the horseflys, all full daylight hours .
I see the biting flys in the daytime, but haven’t seen them at night–of course that may because it’s dark and I can’t see them. They seem to congregate lower on the horse than other species.
