When are the hunt balls?

Now that I have gotten my just- out- of- college- before- grad- school sons interested in hunting this season, they are on to the social life. They want to go to hunt balls and DANCE! They have visions of scarlet tail coats and white ties. All those dance lessons are paying off!

I know only my home hunt has their ball the same day as opening meet. when does your hunt have one?

well, of course i my mind thought of something else when you were asking how to locate hunt balls on the topic line…but we won’t go there:p

LOL…

Ours is Nov 13…we also do it in conjuction with a charity “ovar’coming together” creating awareness on ovarian cancer, since some of our hunt members are survivors. It’s lots of fun with a live band, silent and great food.

…so unless they want to come to Indiana…

Oh my! I think I am going to have vapors from attempting to follow what you were alluding to… (Blushing and waving fan quite quickly)

One of them is doing the interview rounds, so we will see if he is even near you at that time. His sister is in Kansas. Is that vaguely close to you? Like closer than Kentucky? When I fly over the mid west, I get soo confused…

here, I’ll triangulate for you, all driving time:

3 hours southeast of chicago,
3 hours dead west from columbus, Ohio
2 hours north of Louisville
…or 9 hours east from topeka, kansas…LOL

Ours (Camargo-Cincinnati) is Oct 16 this year, the night of our Opening Meet/Blessing.

(We are <2 hours SE of BigBayTB)

We have experimented with different dates, January, Thanksgiving, October etc. Pluses and minuses of all.

Ours is not typically the same weekend as Opening Meet, but this year our schedules are all affected by WEG, many of our members and staff are volunteering or spectating.

Come on and join us!

Ours is in February. Last year it was Presidents’ Day weekend.

Having it in the winter helps to break up the winter blahs, and all the ladies get another occasion to wear one’s mink coat. Not to mention people are able to cool off quickly if you get overheated when dancing.

So excited about the Caroline Hunt’s ball this year, on October 16th. We are having it at Meadow Farm Park, where Secretariat was born. The venue has been restored and it should be so much fun. Silent auction, great band, etc. Now, to fit in the dress…

Ours is in March.

And we have The Best One.

Just sayin’.

ODH/RH one is Oct. 30 at Marriott Ranch in Hume.

Waltzing Matilda…

Thanks for the dates! Anyone know the ones for around Virginia? For some reason, I didn’t get a promised copy of the hunt roster from covertside and I haven’t seen one from the coth, yet.

JSwan, Does yours have belly dancers, or was that a vicious rumor to entice my dynamic duo?

I think hunt balls are so much fun. People are fit and they actually dance. It is not like the charity/political ones that we usually have around Washington. People know each other and there is so much real conversation and banter. Frequently, they dance with some else, in addition to their spouses.

I also like that a pretty dress can be used for many balls, since the papparazzi are kept from filling the pages of the glossies with our photos. So exclusive! Of course, a long gown is best, so the bruises and rubs on our legs don’t show.

The hard part is foxhunting the next day for the stalwart.

OOOOooooo single boys who hunt…

Many ARE in winter during what is usually a closed out period during the hunting season due to weather. Jan & Feb are very popular w/Warrenton, Bull Run, Loudoun, Deep Run, Keswick, and some others I recall.
And yes hunting either the morning of or the morning after is for really, really crazy people. Some never make it to bed! Seen it!:yes: I never like to hunt the day of because it usually takes all day for me to get ready…hair appt to get updo=check, mani/pedi=check, etc.
Single boys who hunt = CHECK!!

All of know of for certain thus far are:

Bull Run March 26 2011

Casanova March ? 2011

Farmington Hunt March 5, 2011

Rappahannock October 30, 2010

Od Dominion October 30, 2010 (held with Rappy’s)

Middleburg February ? 2011

Caroline October 16, 2010 (per above)

Deep Run March ? 2011

Keswick March or April ? 2011

Blue Ridge November ? 2010

Fairfax March ? 2011

Neither Orange nor Piedmont have one. I think Warrenton’s is usually in the winter. Snickersville and Thornton Hill have an event but not exactly a ball (I think). Reedy Creek, Oak Ridge, Glenmore, Rockbridge, Middlebrook, Princess Anne, all have bona fide balls; ck their websites or www.foxhunt.va. Not sure about Colonial, Bedford, Stonewall, Loudoun or Loudoun West; I don’t think Commonwealth has one anymore.

Hands down, Casanova ALWAYS has the best show.

Reedy Creek’s Hunt Ball is held after our closing meet. Usually the end of March, sometimes the first of April.

A good time to be had. Lots of dancing!!

Nope, no rumor. Brazilian dancers.

Lawdy lawdy was that a helluva hunt ball. What little I remember of it, anyway.
