When Did They Start Using Airbags in Eventing?

It IS a good idea, but it’s kind of sad when the poor Japanese and Belgian rider walked off all puffed up like the Michelen Man.

Is it a requirement, or option? Do they use them at all levels? Obviously, I don’t event–too scary for me.

It is definitely not a requirement, and there are a lot of varied opinions on how effective they actually are.

Interestingly, none of the US riders wore them.

It looks like the US riders were definitely wearing them- at least Karen was-you can see the cord in the picture of her on xc http://www.google.com/imgres?q=karen+o'connor+2012+olympics&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1438&bih=764&tbm=isch&tbnid=nLhKSLOr10CzGM:&imgrefurl=http://photos.syracuse.com/syracusecom_photo_essays/2012/07/london_summer_olympic_games_ju.html&docid=sOd3RX-s_a1EoM&imgurl=http://media.syracuse.com/post-standard/photo/2012/07/11365829-essay.jpg&w=980&h=684&ei=8mgXUKjDCsWKrgHDxYFw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=1026&vpy=282&dur=562&hovh=187&hovw=269&tx=158&ty=98&sig=113674611935410363202&page=1&tbnh=125&tbnw=167&start=0&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:0,i:125
(sorry for the ridiculous link)

I wonder if they were the new hybrid vests?

I take it back…Boyd was definitely not wearing one. Hmm.

that’s not what he says

strange; he is featured in an ad stating he would not go out:no: without one, or words to that effect.

I found it odd as well…doesn’t appear that Will was wearing one either, haven’t found any pictures that show enough detail to tell for Tiana or Phillip
