When Do You Get to Turn Your Bow Right-side Up?

The title of this thread says it all. I just wondered. (I don’t hunt, I’d just like to know. )

If you mean the ribbon “streamers up”, you do that when you are a hunt professional: Prof Huntsman, Prof Whipper-In, for example.

No. Ribbons down for professionals. Up if you’re not.

True.

Unless of course you ride in France, where it’s the other way 'round.

Good, I’ve spent some time sewing the ribbons of my Charles Owens up. Hope it’s right.

So … it’s only the hunt staff who wear the ribbons right-side up, i.e., streamers down? (I thought it was anyone who’d actually hunted, but I guess I was wrong.)

Only PROFESSIONAL hunt staff. Unpaid huntstaff (often the whips are unpaid) don’t.

I heard something once along the lines that only professionals have them turned down, because they are stuck out in whatever kind of weather, and the turned down ribbons help the water to run down their back…or something like that!

No intention of causing offence, but might you consider investing in a crash helmet, with a velvet or satin or lycra cover, and then you wouldnt have to worry about little bits of mis-angled black ribbon at all?

My crash helmet is black velvet with the ribbons the way they should be. Wish everyone that hunted would do likewise…I just hate those skunk helmets…

you’re right…I was suffering from lack of sleep when I posted, and I should know, I WAS a hunt professional! Streamers down for professionals.
