When Picking a Wedding Dress, Make Sure Your Horse Likes It Too

Sacking out new things before getting on is often a good idea - especially with a sack that expensive!

My first thought was “a$$ over teakettle!”

Oh, my, what start to a marriage, getting dumped up front.

Haha, oh my.

Thankfully, my mom’s horse was the calmer of the two and she was fine with it.

The Draft Horse Friends on FB loved this one after I titled it, “This Friesian didn’t say yes to the dress!”

Do you take this man … whoa! whoa! whoooa! Dammit.

A nearby neighbor wanted to borrow a very sweet grey mare to participate in her daughter’s wedding. Daughter owned a grey mare that was not suitable for the job. The daughter came over with oversized hoop skirt to try out the mare and everything went well. We cleaned up the mare the day of the wedding and trailered her over, all braided up with flowers in her mane. The wedding gown was one of the huge tulle skirted things and mare was a little skittish about all that poufy fabric. The bride decided her father should lead the mare down the aisle. Everything went very well until - wait for it - they shot off a cannon seconds after the “I do’s”. This lovely mare was so good. All she did was sidestep one or two steps. No one had ever said a word about shooting off a cannon during the ceremony!! I wish I had a photo from that day to share.

I almost fell off of my chair when you put canon and horse in the same sentence! Your mare really must be a saint!!

I also love the comment about the Friesian not saying yes to the dress! Too funny.

I was actually able to do a shoot lest year that involved a horse and we definitely took our time getting her use to the bride before mounting up and eventually setting her loose. The bride had owned the horse for a number of years and the new owner was kind enough to lend her to us for the photos

That’s one of the nicest horseback wedding photos I have seen – nicely done. What a pretty lady.

Hmmmm. What kind of helmet do you wear with a wedding dress?

I think that maybe that is one time when the helmet fanatic should leave hers home.

There are some risks worth taking in life and maybe that is one.
