Need kids coats that have more room in the waste. Bigger kids sizes result in huge arm pit cuts and long arms. Women’s coats won’t fit at all. Any Suggestions for blocky less tailored kids coats? Or husky brands?
Try Dover. They sell at least one boys’ show jacket in a husky cut. Maybe that would work.
I was not a fat kid/teen, but I was very active (riding, tennis, swimming) and had a stocky, muscular build. Every single trip to the tack shop to buy riding clothes left me in tears. Nothing ever fit right.
Gee, thanks for triggering the traumatic flashback.
Edited to add that, since I’m avoiding real work today, I went to Dover and looked. The girl’s Wellington show coat comes in a “full” cut, but available sizes are limited.
Grand Prix makes a “husky”, it has to be special ordered and takes up to 10 weeks, but it is a great option for kids like that. I have bought the Grand Prix Techlite in a husky for the last three sizes from Farmhouse tack, mostly because the Techlites run slim, she doesn’t need a husky in a traditional wool coat, but I know they make them. I will tell you when I go to sell those coats, they always go within a day to moms of similar kids I have a whole little list of people to contact when we outgrow them. They are like gold. The Wellington Collection which is sold at Dover runs generous through the waist but I think they are cheap and bulky looking and hate them. ETA, even the regular sizes run generous, so you may not need an actual “full” depending on your child. Short sizes are your friend as well, so you can get the extra around the middle without going too long through the body.
Good luck, it is NOT easy and it is not cheap. If you decide to go with the custom size Grand Prix (the techlite was $300-330ish), call Farmhouse, they are the best.
Equine Couture has a stretchy one that is more blocky. My daughter is built a bit square in the body right now and this coat fits her well. Plus it looks nice on, is comfortable and washes well. http://s96.photobucket.com/user/livelyl1/media/BowenBedrock_zpsda6c4862.jpg.html
All brands fit a little different. I get the coat to fit the widest area and then have the coat tailored for a custom fit. My local tailor charges about $45.00 to custom tailor a coats for my daughter.

Pikeur is a little blockier.
