Where can I get this feed bin??

Does anyone know where to get something like this in the US? I love it! I’ve goggled, but can’t find anything.

My dad made a wooden base for my Gamma containers. He put large caster wheels on the bottom.

Why not just use an old deep freeze?

Doesn’t have 3 bins? Personally, I don’t want one of these either because I periodically move my feed bins and sweep behind them, and wash them out. I’m not sure that’s possible with an old freezer.

I will also say that I’ve used two basic Rubbermaid tubs with lids for nearly 10 years and they have never been breached by mice, cracked or otherwise needed replacing. I’d like them better if they were a double unit on casters, but for my small farm (ranging from 2-5 horses over the past decade) they have worked great.

From the U-line catalogue…http://www.uline.com/BL_9/Rubbermaid-Ingredient-Bins?keywords=rubbermaid bulk bins

If you go with an old freezer because it’s free  then you can set it up on a 3/4" or even 1" sheet of plywood with heavy duty casters to make it portable. That takes out “free”, but it’s probably cheaper than buying something ready-made.

I think your specific situation matters as to whether you can get away with plastic containers. When I boarded, there was no such thing as a mouse/rat-proof plastic container when it came to feed (and some supplements). But at our own place now, plastic is just fine.

OMG those uline bins start at $274!

I’m currently using the IRIS airtight bins, which do come with wheels, but I love they way this is all together so you only have to roll one thing to clean, sweep, etc. I guess I can have my handyman a “cart”.

Thanks for the input!

Yaya,

Do you have this rolling cart? Wondering if the lids are airtight/sealed?

Ugh, I’d definitely be using traps or poison if this were the case. We have mice from time to time - this winter was hard and I found evidence of mice in my feed room and my tack room (they made a nest in an old helmet!) But they seem to be eating only spilled grain. Can’t imagine if they ate through my Rubbermaid tub - yuck!

(Although I recently had a discussion with a friend about mice in feed bins, and she said it was absolutely a “user problem” in her barn – her kids were not good about reclosing the bins.)

This is a cart but it holds 250 lbs of feed and has three compartments.

I covet all of the feed bins from the UK and wonder why we are so behind the times over here with horse supplies. Both the aluminum and plastic they have over there are fab.
I looked high and low for the ones from the restaurant industry that others have posted since they are near perfect (love the clear lids) but they are ludicrously expensive so I just went with wheeled garbage cans at a tenth the price. I even looked at having one custom fabricated from a local aluminum shop but again prohibitively expensive.

No, just found it on Google. I use a Rubbermaid Brute trash can on its rolling stand. Never had a critter get in.

I also use a rolling IRIS bin, for the one horse on a different feed.

I love Horsemen’s Pride products. The feed cart will hold 4 50lb bags of feed.

That is the same cart that Dover sells, and it hold 250 lbs.

We have the sacks of feed sitting in a Rubbermaid deck box, which has lasted well and seems to be mouse-proof so far.

Another option is the HD bins used to store road salt: http://www.costco.ca/Salt-and-Sand-Outdoor-Storage-Bin.product.100011778.html

I suspect the Rubbermaid bins shown above (which look perfect) are so expensive because they’re made from food-grade plastics - ?
