Where did cheap wormers go?

I used to be able to find Ivermectin Paste wormers for $2.95, I guess because of covid and whatever it was not available. now it seems that most places it is over $10. I guess I will have to suck it up, but I need 60 of them I would love to hear if anyone has a good source for them.

could not sleep so looked around the internet… this offer makes it $5.99 a tube (purchased in 12 packs of single dose).

Base cost is $95.99 for the 12 pack then offer of 30% off if you are willing to accept their texted offers to your cell phone. If your phone is like mine I can block an incoming number so would not need to actually get the messages.

Other places are showing the same 12 pack at the $95.99 price with price matching if found for less at another web site within 14 days of purchase (KV Supply)

Both State Line and KV show to have inventory of these 12 packs

Injectable liquid ivermectin can be used orally in horses. The dose is 0.2 mg/kg for a 10 mg/ml concentration (1%). So, a 500kg (1100lb) horse would get a 10mL dose.

Ivermax is one brand, though used off-label for horses. SparMectin is an (the only?) brand approved for horses, but it’s still the same stuff.

For cost comparison, Heartland has the SparMectin for $50 for a 100mL bottle, which would treat 10 horses if they are 1100lb (and obviously fewer horses if they are more than 1100lb)

Make sure it’s the injectable kind, not the pour-on kind. You CAN use pour-on as a topical, just not oral.

That’s what I was gonna say, see if you can get injectable and mix it into a little applesauce for thickener. I always kept old, cleaned dewormer tubes around and would fill them with applesauce and shoot them up occasionally just to keep them happy to take it.

If you do find plain ivermectin for $5.95 or so, and if it deworms up to 1250lb (some cheap ones are only 1100lb) and you have horses > 1100lb, you’d have to do the math on the liquid to see if it’s cheaper enough to be worth the hassle of the liquid.

At least one Canadian company (AVL) sells liquid iveremectin dewormer in a bulk bottle made specifically for horses. Each bottle comes with 10 doses (for average sized horses) and has a fantastic cap to make dispensing easy.

Some of those cheap dewormers were found to have crappy/useless carrying agents, so it is possible that they have just been put out of business/forced to use better ingredients. I hope so.

I was in the local farmer’s co-op the other week looking for ivermectin, and the manager told me it is almost impossible to get it.

I ended up ordering it from Riding Warehouse. I was able to get a discount on it with my U.S. Rider membership.

Just keep in mind that the 10 dose, so I assume a 100mL bottle at the 1% (10mg/mL) concentration, is for an 1100lb horse. So so many horses weigh more than that, so need more than 10mL. It’s just something people need to be aware of since just like the pastes, it’s still all dosed by weight, and you should never risk under-dosing

Equimax, and the Merial Zimecterin Gold (US) and Eqvalan Gold (CN) still seem to be pretty easily available, and if you haven’t treated for tapeworms in a good 6 months, are the better choice anyway

It was a 120 ml bottle, so for my herd, it worked out to 10 horses as some are lighter and some are heavier. I find it much more efficient for a big herd as I can use math to use the bottle completely rather than having partially used tubes.

Yep! If you are sure of their weight, it is that much easier to dial in the appropriate dose, and not waste a 200lb dose amount.

JB The problem I have is that I am actually worming 2200 lbs horses so I use 2 per horse.

we took our horses to a rock quarry that allowed us to weigh the horses on their certified scale, they did charge I think it was $1 per head but we had their weights then compared the scaled weight to that of the weight tape measure for future use.

The math is the same, it’s just a matter of figuring out if 2 full tubes, which might be a 2500lb dose, so up to 300lb wasted (assuming you have an accurate weight of 2200lb), is still cheaper, or more convenient at least, than an accurate 2200lb dose of liquid.

how did the tape compare to scale?

we found the tape to be within 25 pounds (over weight) of the scaled weight for our horses (old style Lippitt Morgans)

that is good news.
