Where do individuals sell their trucks?

I’m looking for a new(to me) late model diesel truck to pull my trailer, but cannot figure out where to find individuals selling their used trucks. I looked at the big sites like cars.com and Auto Trader, but it’s all dealers. I know there are lots of facebook groups selling trailers, so I figured there might be the same for trucks - anyone know of any? The used trucks are dealerships are more expensive than the used ones, ugh!

Have you tried Cragislist? You can set your search parameter to only include private sellers.

Around here, they’re usually parked by the road, or in the Park & Ride lots. I haven’t looked for used trucks online so can’t help you there.

I sold mine on our local (Bay Area) horse network site in the classifieds. Sold it first day, only had to deal with the one buyer, a dressage rider, someone I knew distantly. Very pleasant experience.

Its mostly craigslist and word of mouth here.

I got my truck off Craig’s List.

I’ve had probably two dozen people ask to buy my truck in parking lots over the past couple years. I’m not selling, but it must work some times

Try posting a want add on Craigslist- specifying the kind of truck you are looking for. Word of mouth. Good luck!

I sold mine by word of mouth. First person who came to look at it bought it!

Craigslist.

Try Facebook farmers groups for your area. Maryland Farmers Exchange is always listing trucks.

Here we have “ad tracker” or or the " trader" so I am thinking you have papers like that. It is easier to post on Craigslist and free so many individuals go there.

Around here it is Craigslist or parked along the road either at a private house or often a local repair shop. I got an awesome deal on mine parked outside a repair shop. The oil change sticker had 300K plus on it. Still called the guy and found out it had a brand new, factory oem diesel motor, trans, and transfer case with less than 20k miles on it. He was a smoker, so that took some work to get rid of the smell and it needed new tires, but I got a 2500 diesel 2006 Chevy for $7000 after all the extras with 80K left on the transferable (I checked prior to purchase) warranty. They’re out there, but sometime you’ve gotta get a little lucky.

If I were looking to buy or sell, I’d still make a few stops over to Cars.com and craigslist both. I’ve bought several vehicles on Craigslist, and have had good and not-so-good experiences.

If you’re determined to stay away from dealers, on Cars.com you can start out with your search of vehicle type, then on the left-hand side there’s a panel for narrowing your search. Under “More Options” you can select seller type as Private Party & Classified.

Good luck!

I’ll keep checking Craigslist and all the usual sites. In talking to people, it doesn’t sound like anyone tries to sell their truck individually these days - they just trade it in when they get a new one. Word of mouth is probably a good way to find these ones.

I’m hoping maybe the dealers will make a great deal on a new one the last week of the year - but even then, $40k+ for a truck is a tough pill to swallow!
