Where do you look for recip mares?

I’m sure this has been covered but I’m having no luck finding the threads. I’m looking for 2 recip mares in the Southeast. Preferably a lease situation. Best place to look???

We buy mostly off the track Quarter Horses, and sometimes TBs. They are cheap, young and generally easy to work with. No help with leasing, though.

PM me. I know someone in Cali who has some.

Foxhunter, there is a vet near me named Owens who started specializing in equine reproduction services several years ago and was maintaining a herd of recip mares for clients. He is NOT my vet – I only use Dr. Murray and his practice, but he might lease one to you or might know of one that is available. I am in Columbiana, AL (Shelby County - about 30 min S of Birmingham). You can email me if you wish and I’ll locate a phone # for you of his practice - BGarzarek@aol.com. Good luck!

I use either thoroughbred or warmblood mares for WB embryos. I prefer decent pedigrees because there are things like epigenetics that come into play and there is too much about the subject we don’t know. I have personally seen quarterhorse recipient mares give birth to warmblood foals who move and look like a QH and nothing like their genetic mother. I’m also picky picky picky about temperament and fertility. They must be great in both departments. To find them I hunt through the for sale ads. I reject many mares before I find one to keep.
