In the show jumping I didn’t see any French riders…
They had riders in Dressage and Eventing but where are their Show Jumpers??

According to this article, the French riders were too far down the international rankings as of May 2008 to qualify for the Olympics! 
But with dual citizenship, I can cheer for the Canadian riders!!!

It was incredible that France didn’t qualify, bearing in mind that they finished as the second highest stud book last year (6 of the 7 horses which got them there were ridden and owned by Franch people/riders). But, if you didn’t do it at the Europeans, you didn’t go.
Ionesco de Brekka (Dollar du Murier) was in the top twenty last year but got sold to Azerbijan and is at the Games.
Jaguar Mail is owned by Bernard le Courtois, but is ridden for Sweden (wise move Bernard).
Kalaska de Semilly (Diamanr de Semilly) was sold to Latifah al Makthoum.

Jaguar Mail has two neat TB’s in his pedigree - the US TB’s Turn-To and Buckpasser, jump producers, in one package.
Dollar du Murier isn’t at the Games, we bracket the sire next to the horse we’re talking about.
Itot du Chateau
Itot du Chateau is jumping very well for Edwina Alexander (Australia). This stallion is out of the half-sister of my SF stallion Desir du Chateau. Itot du Chateau is currently tied with Hickstead (whose damsire is my stallion Ekstein), Cumano and Sapphire for 2nd place in the individual ranking.
But I believe the individual results to date will now be set aside and all that have qualified for the individual final start later in the week with zero penalties.
Is it true that when the French team didn’t qualify for the Olympics, they sold all of their horses? :lol: I’ve been hearing this, and thought it was pretty hilarious…but couldn’t verify the story anywhere.
Tom, your blogspot on the use of thoroughbreds in sport horse breeding is beautifully written and fascinating. Wish I could buy one of your horses! (dreamland) But I’ve been wondering why tbs are fading from the jumping world.

I heard (also not sure where) that several of the owners of the French horses decided to sell when they knew they would not be going to the Olympics, in part because a horse of that level in an Olympic year when people are trying to qualify is going to fetch a bit more money than at a less opportune time. I haven’t heard anything about horses owned by the riders being sold.
There’s an element of truth here, but not totally.
Ionesco de Brekka was sold to Azerbijan, Jaguar Mail is still owned by BLC, but lives in Sweden.
Itot was sold for 2.5M€ to Jan Tops, and if i’d had my way (and a couple of people had their heads screwed on tight) he’d have been jumping for the USA.
Koro d’Or could have been in the US as well.
Other than that, the other five French horses ranked in the top 70 at the end of last year have all stayed in France.
