Where my Arabian peeps at?

Proud member of the Snort and Blow clique

Good morning y’all!

It appears that the “Snort and Blow clique” is the most popular choice.

To all grammarians out there:
What is the correct capitalization and/or punctuation for the name of our clique?

The Snort and Blow Clique - I like it!!!

My friend’s 17:2hh warmbloods are way spookier than any Arabian I’ve ever had the pleasure to be owned by…

I’ve had Arabians (and other breeds) for over 40 years, and only came off my Arabians twice. Once when my dressage whip got stuck under my seat…go figure, and my horse spun, and I went down the well. The other time, a buck jumped out in front of my mare, she slammed the brakes on, and I went over the top only because I was experimenting with a riser pad, so my balance was off. Other than that, I trust them more than any other breed. JMHO

I completly agree with you. The “penchant for recreational spooking” line cracked me up because I have a horse that does exactly that. Vee’s level of spookiness is directly related to his boredom level. My other Arabian is the total opposite -I’ve never seen him spook at anything.

I find that they have that “electric shock” spook most often if they want to alert you or are bored. It is that sudden splaying of all four feet with a snort and blow…then they laugh at you as they dance past whatever it wasn’t…lol. When they teleport, they take you with them in perfect balance in general…always amazes me. I also had a mare that pointed at objects like a hunting dog. She never did anything else other than freeze, look, and hold her front leg up…funny.

Heh heh–love the Snort and Blow Clique name (although it sounds a bit like cocaine is involved  ).

The other week, I was riding Tril on a meander around the arenas. Up by the public bathroom, there was the big ol’ dumpster trash truck, its engine whining and growling in park while the driver was in the bathroom. I wanted to see how Tril would do walking by the giant grey monster (knowing he sees it every week), and I walked him right past it, although about 10’ to the side to give him some space. He barely flicked an ear. Not a single crap was given.

BUT then about 15’ later we walked by a large rock bordering the arena–the same rock that’s been there for practically eternity–and he propped and snorted in place for a second before continuing the meander.

Huge trash trucks that come and go and roar and hiss and are not where they usually are? Nothing.

Rock 2 1/2’ long and maybe 1’ tall that’s been there forever? OMGWTF?!

I loved a little Arab (Echo Magnifico son) who was in training at the big Hungarian Farm I groomed at. He was so light and easy to handle. I love the Arab “splay, snort, blow and look” spook. Especially as opposed to the Hungarian (and sometimes Trakehner) “freak out all over back and forth and all around” spook. Always took a week at least to instill that it was unacceptable.

I love my Arab! He’s almost 9yo now and I’ve had him since just shy of his 3rd birthday. I’ve done all his training myself and I couldn’t ask for a better buddy. We do a little bit of everything and he’s always up for a new adventure. The “crazy” Arab is the one who all my friends ask if they can give a pony ride on when they have non horse people visit the barn.

He’s not terribly spooky and his spooks are absolutely directly related to his level of boredom. Poles/jumps/whatnot in the arena = boring and therefore scary. However, we go foxhunting? He’ll jump ANYTHING without blinking, blast across creeks, not bat an eye at hounds popping out at random, etc. That pole in the arena that hasn’t moved in WEEKS we’ve been past hundreds of times? SCARY! Obviously worthy of teleportation.

He’s a great sport about doing pretty much anything I feel like trying. He may not be the best at anything, but he’ll sure try his little heart out for me. He’s absolutely got a home with me for life!

That means that they like you! Cool!
It also means that it is dinner time.

Coolest. Horse. Ever.

He’s lovely. What brand of side pull bridle are you using in this picture?

The bridle itself is a Premier bridle from Schneider’s. http://www.sstack.com/English_Bridles_Snaffle-/Premier-Raised-Bridle/

The sidepull is a Tory “jumping hackamore”. https://www.horseloverz.com/product/bridle-parts/190910-na.html?sku=5-170461&gdftrk=gdfV27555_a_7c1161_a_7c2883_a_7c5_d_170461&gclid=CKWqzcLcsrwCFUJo7AodWFsA-A

Mika LOVES going in a sidepull. That day I had planned to do the Pace and Chase in the sidepull and switch to my bitted hunt bridle for the formal classes for the rest of the day (I hunt in a snaffle and usually use one for flat work in the arena). I ended up just saying screw it, lets just go with the sidepull. Its actually pretty nice leather and looks much more expensive than it actually was.

Here is a beautiful little video of a horse I knew well. He was one of the most beautiful, sweetest stallions ever. VA Sirius.

Coolest. Horse. Ever.
 I certainly think so. He’s a huge puppy. He LOVES people and is everything I could possibly have asked for in a buddy.

I went down to the farm to look at two other colts that I liked on paper a whole lot better. I liked their videos better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIS7au2PN34 Mika’s sale’s video.

I REALLY wanted this colt, but he was sold the day before I went down there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_feWuEOaALM

I went out in the field with the colts his age and only one had any interest in the humans. He was very curious about who these new humans were and just wanted to hang out and see what we were doing. Even when we’d shoo him away so we could check out a different colt, he was hovering and trying to figure out how to get back to hang out with us. I liked his personality immediately, but didn’t want to pick the first horse I looked at there.

After looking at him, we drove all over the farm and looked at the other 120some horses on the farm (they breed for racing mostly). I liked several others, but I kept going back to that goofy colt in the first field. I decided to go for it and bought him. We had some rocky moments, but for the most part, he’s been fantastic to train and we’ve had a lot of fun. I’ve had him for almost six years now. Each year just gets better and better.

A friend, now departed, had the most wonderful Arabian stallion. Don’t know his reg. name but she called him Bandar.

We took a mare to be bred to him and I’ve never seen anything like it. She had mare in round pen and let Bandar in the pen free.
He went up to the mare and begain the up and down the legs thing which means oooh you are beautiful. The maiden mare got antsy and my friend said "Bandar, you are scaring her. Back off. And he did.

After a few more minutes my friend told Bandar that the mare was ready. Go ahead now. And he did.
Amazing.

Bandar made babies that were well suited for competitive rides and they looked so much like him you could go down a line of horses and easily pick out the Bandar babies.

Funny tale about the above mentioned mare. We left her there and a week later my friend called and said come get this slutty mare. She isn’t in heat but she is claiming she is because she evidently wants to be bred every day.

When we picked her up she fought like a tiger and screamed all the way home for her “lover”.

An oldie but a goodie:

How Many Horses Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

Thoroughbred: Who ME?? Do WHAT? I’m scared of light bulbs! I’m outta here!

Arabian: I changed it an hour ago. C’mon you guys - catch up!

Quarter Horse: Put all the bulbs in a pen and tell me which one you want.

Standardbred: Oh for Pete’s Sake, give me the darn bulb and let’s be done with it.

Shetland: Give it to me. I’ll kill it and we won’t have to worry about it anymore.

Friesian: I would, but I can’t see where I’m going from behind all this mane.

Belgian: Put the Shetland on my back, maybe he can reach it then.

Warmblood: Is the 2nd Level Instruction Packet in English? Doesn’t anyone realize that I was sold for $75K as a yearling, but only because my hocks are bad, otherwise I would be worth $100K? I am NOT changing lightbulbs. Make the TB get back here and do it.

Morgan: Me! Me! Me! Pleeease let me! I wanna do it! I’m gonna do it! I know how, really I do! Just watch! I’ll rewire the barn after, too.

Appaloosa: Ya’ll are a bunch of losers. We don’t need to change the lightbulb, I ain’t scared of the dark. And someone make that darn Morgan stop jumping up and down before I double barrel him.

Mustang: Lightbulb? Let’s go on a trail ride, instead. And camp. Out in the open like REAL horses.

Lipizzaner: Hah, amateurs. I will change the lightbulb. Not only that, but I will do it while standing on my hind legs and balancing it on my nose, after which I will perform seven flying lead changes in a row and a capriole. Can you do that? Huh? Huh? Didn’t think so.

Miniature: I bet you think I can’t do it just cause I’m small. You know what that is? It’s sizeism!

Akhal Teke: I will only change it if it’s my owner’s lightbulb and no one else has ever touched it.

Andalusian: I will delegate the changing of the lightbulb to my personal groom after he finishes shampooing my mane and cleaning my saddle, but only on the condition that it is changed for a soft blue or green bulb, which reflects better off my coat while I exhibit
my astonishing gaits.

Cleveland Bay: I’m busy. Make the whipper-in and the hounds do it.

Saddlebred: My ears are up already, please, please get the lightbulb away from me! I’m ready to show, really, I promise I’ll win!

Paint: Put all the lightbulbs in a pen, tell me which one you want, and my owner will bet you twenty bucks I can get it before the quarter horse.

POA: I’m not changing it. I’m the one who kicked the old one and broke it in the first place, remember? Now, excuse me, I have a grain room to break into.

Haflinger: That thing I ate was a lightbulb?

Grade Horse: Guys? Um, guys? I hope you don’t mind, but I went ahead and changed it while you were all arguing

Oh Arab peeps! First show of the year in Region 5, the Northwest Heritage Arabian Horse Show in Monroe, WA is in exactly 12 days! Hope to see everyone there!

http://northwestheritage.org/HorseShow.htm

Cross your fingers for me  First rated Arabian show for me is next month (assuming all ponies are sound). Half Arab hunter pleasure, and sporthorse under saddle/in hand. Maybe stock/hunter type halter with the HA gelding
