Where to advertise puppies?

So I have a litter of well bred hunting labs for sale- where is the best place to advertise for them? I have an ad in the local paper, but I am not sure where else to post? (im not trying to advertise mods!! If this is too close to an ad let me know and I will change it!)

Does “well bred” mean hunting parentage or show? I don’t know labs that well but in Springers that’s a HUGE distinction.

I’d suggest going to AKC.org and finding links through other lab breeders to acceptable sites. Many online sites with pet classifieds are little more than puppy brokerages. Some are good, but i have no clue which ones. I’ve never used that method of selling pups (i have a website, pups are pre-sold).

They are hunting bred (pointing labs to be specific). I’ll try the AKC website. Usually ours are pre sold, but this litter isn’t moving fast…

I have no idea how effective this place is, but when friends have asked me to turn up hunting bred dogs, I find this to be a good resource:

Where are you? I do know someone who’s looking for a lab for upland game.

We use the site Simkie mentioned for our GSP’s. Have you checked in with the stud dog owner? That’s presuming you don’t happen to own both parents. If there’s a field dog group in your area, you might get in touch with them directly and let them know you have dogs available.

The other thing we find useful is keeping an up to date website which lists pedigrees, health screenings, titles, etc. We find that we have pretty regular inquiries about upcoming litters.

We are located in Illinois, but we have sold dogs across the country.

if you think your pups may have the aptitude for SAR and detection work you could post on workingdogforum.com most puppy buyers from this forum will be asking questions about health checks, pedigree and working titles.

They’re looking closer to home, I think, but I would be happy to pass the info on if you’d like to send me a PT.

Surely if you breed “hunting dogs”, you must be familiar with hunting-dedicated magazines?

I don’t in the least mean to sound snarky, but this seems like a thinly-veiled advertisement.

why did you breed if you didn’t have buyers lined up?
needing to advertise after the birth is a big red flag that you shouldn’t be breeding.

I agree completely.

Sounds like a sign that this should be your last litter. Good luck with the pups - are you prepared to keep them all?

Call me crabby…but a good breeder shouldnt need to advertise…they breed when they have buyers lined up.

Guys seriously. LOTS of good breeders have to advertise, otherwise there wouldn’t be websites online listing litters for sale. We don’t have a website, my dad is NOT tech savy. We have maybe one litter every three years. And we did have buyers lined up. Eight of them. However, there are 15 in the litter. Get off my back. Within one day of advertising on a hunting dog site they are ALL sold. Not going to be our last litter either. Obviously you have no clue WHAT I was saying- I have NEVER advertised, everything has been word of mouth. Eventually you run out of word of mouth people.

On the flip side…you could have only had 5 puppies…leaving a few buyers with nothing. Really no telling with the breeding game!

15…that’s a big litter!
