As we start to organize the spring show season, I am on the hunt for large quantities of fake flowers for hunter jumps, for not a bank breaking amount of money. We have been limping through the last couple years with the flowers we have, but it’s time to bite the bullet and stock up on new ones.
Does anyone have recommendations for places to buy bulk quantities of flowers?
It sounds morbid but… check with your local “perpetual care” cemeteries. Sometimes they give away (or throw away) fake flowers once they’ve served their purpose.
I often see them at thrift stores, rather the worse for wear. Or you could try dollar stores but that will add up. Possibly advertise on a local Buy Nothing or Freebies FB group.
Michaels’ Crafts. Wait until the ^season^ (spring/summer/fall/winter) for that type of flower is over and they’re pretty cheap. Very pricey in season though! There’s also often a coupon in their circular for 20% off (not sure if it applies on sale items though, it might be regular price only stuff).
Garage sales, thrift stores, estate sales. I have scored magnificently several times at these venues. I have two brush jump fillers that are entirely flowers, not “brush”. I had to build two because I had so many flowers that they would not fit into only one. Garbage bags full of them. Most still had the price tags on them, pristine condition. I’ve had them a number of years now, and they aren’t in such good condition any more, as the deer come into my arena and try to eat them, the buggars. All my horses are broke to evacuate deer from the arena before we start to warm up. At a local farm produce store bankruptcy sale, I left a bid on them (like $10) and couldn’t attend the auction. Included with them in the lot were some Halloween decorations that I did not want. I came back the day after the auction was over to see what I had managed to buy for my lowball offers, and picked up the few items that I had managed to successfully purchase. But they told me that I was NOT the successful bidder on the flowers I wanted. But then, a fella said, “Oh, you wanted those flowers, didn’t you?” “Yes, I did”. “Well the successful bidder only wanted the Halloween decorations, and didn’t want the flowers, so he left them here and took only the Halloween decorations- the flowers are going to the dump. Do you want them for free?” “Ummmm YES!” So that is how I managed to get them. About $400 worth of very realistic fake flowers. You neva no your luck.
Dollar Tree
Yep. Cemetery clean-ups - probably about now before spring resets but it will be a lot of Xmas decor. Resale shops - have a senior friend/relative ? = sr day discounts 30% off at GW. Hobby Lobby 50% off weeks. I’ve bought steep after season discounted at Big Lots.
Have you tried google for bulk flowers or bulk silk flowers?
They have sites that sell bulk products, like restaurant store supplies or hotel supplies and others.
I found a couple sites immediately that sell bulk, discount flowers. Haven’t searched them to see if they sell mixed batches, though.
Also, some dollar type stores sell by the case. You may be able to save that way.
