I called Silktree and they wanted $34.70 each. Yikes. That makes a pretty penny when you put 20 pairs out.
Perhaps I dreamed it, but I thought I saw somewhere with a better price.

I’m afraid i havent found them cheaper… Maybe buy a couple at a time? I know, i would love to have some, but it’s not gonna happen for a while for me!
Whoa, China – 12" cones for only $4.60!?! That’s the best price I’ve seen. I may have to buy those.
I really want to get the bright green ones. lol.
Zwarte, yes, the “real” cones are extremely extremely expensive. You won’t find them much cheaper. In fact, I think the cheapest I found them was a little over $40 each, so you got a good price, lol.
I have small cones, I think they are 10" tall, that I found in the sporting goods section of Farm & Fleet. I think they are for soccer or something? I’m not sure. Anyway, they were $3 for a 4 pack, so I bought them out. I also found a couple small orange traffic cones by pure luck at a Goodwill store, so all totaled I have 20 gates worth of cones. lots of cones, but they are so small, they are easy to carry around, since I don’t leave them set up.
Good enough for practice as far as I am concerned.
I wish those were good enough, but when it comes down to it, those are just too small and easy to miss… It’s really helpful to have the real things. Though I did just use trees to practice last year… hit those and it’s a lot worse than dropping a ball…

Ok here is 18" for 6.40 they have all sizes. I couldn’t find out how tall FEI ones are??
FOr a long time I used the regular traffic cones and cut off the base on the inside so they drove more like the real thing. I actually have a set of the “real thing” that I bought used really cheap for what they are ($12.50 a cone) but I don’t use them because I am told they can’t stay out in the weather without falling apart…
There was a post to the CD-L a few days ago with the instructions on how to make PVC “cones”, quite innovative design, that they say cost about $3.50 a “cone” and they do end up driving like FEI cones. It’s a U shaped base, with an arm up the side, then bent back over the center with a post with a ball on the top…I have the plans if you PM me your email I am happy to forward them.
You can get yellow colored FEI style cones from Gayla Driving Center in KY for $27
Traffic cones will also work fine. You can set them measuring from a point to a point to give best clearance. The cool thing with traffic cones is you can ‘set them back up’ after a knockdown by carefully driving over the rim. Won’t be in the exact same position, but it’s fun and will develop some skill in driving that close without creaming the whole thing.

Check with your state department of transportation (or whatever dept is in charge of road maintenance) and ask what they do with their old cones. I know several people who have (legally) collected quite a few for free.
As the queen of cheap DIY, I found mine at the Dollar Store. They are cones actually intended for swimming pool play, but they’re a good size, remain upright (even though they do not have a base), hold a tennis ball, and cost only $1 each. You can get orange, yellow, lime green, purple…
I have tried to pm you equine driver but your box is full, I am very interested in plans for PVC “cones”
I purchased some Silk Tree driving cones and they came in a washed out pink color. I was not at all happy with them. They looked like they had sat in the sun for years and faded. Silk tree said they would replace and now are giving me the run around. I would never purchase from them again. I am now looking into the cones that Gayla sells
I LOVE the cones we got from Gayla. I’ve run over a couple of them and they bounce right back! You might be able to find someone going to the National Drive that can transport soem back for you.

While these aren’t FEI driving cones I would find it amusing to have DANGER printed on cones!
Could you not make road cones into FEI style offset cones by taking a pie slice out of the bottom of the cone and sticking it back to the base ?

Well I suppose you could do that, what a good idea.
After looking at the cones course from Beekbergen I still think they should have DANGER printed on them!
I found assorted sized cones in the plumbing department of Home Depot.
