Where to find lop ears?

Lots of Cleveland Bays are certainly over-endowed in the ear department!

I want to see a lop eared horse now. Are they just big & floppy, or are we talking a special trait that I haven’t seen or notices?

A foal born at our barn has humongenous ears that took about a week to stand up. Adorable…

You really have to see him in action to appreciate the ears but this gives you an idea.

My Gauguin de Lully mare has big, floppy ears. They flop in rhythm to her gait when she is moving through her back and relaxed. Love that horse! She has 3 foals, only one of whom I have met and he does not have her ears.

I have a picture that captures her ears somewhere, will try to find it.

His stallion has lovely floppy ears, but he’s not a jumper: http://www.dressagedaily.com/market/horse-market/don-calidasjubilant

Apiro has not qute lop ears, but they are adorable!! My three year old filly has them too and I love them :)[/QUOTE]

My 2 yr old by Apiro also has some flop to her ears. Love them.

I have seen quite a few Alla’Czar mares with lop ears. That said, my Alla’Czar stallion has small, almost ponyish ears for such a big horse. However, the lop ears do appear on some of this foals. Attached is a picture of one of his foals at 3 months, and the same foal at 2 1/2 years. I personally love them.

YES! lol I don’t know if it’s something he throws or if it’s just this guy…
My Clinton mare threw a Nabab de Reve with some pretty fantastically cute lop ears!! Wish I knew how to post a pic!!!

If you go to my website, it’s in the mare’s photo gallery… the last photo in the gallery is the absolute best, his ears are sideways.

First mare on the page

Ahhh! If he were just six years old, and jumping, I’d be all over him!!! Those are fantastic ears!

I actually saw a mare at one barn I was at to try a different horse, who had lop ears and a white blaze down her face, and wanted to buy her on sight - no matter what she did!

Now if I can figure out how to search for such a feature on dreamhorse, I’ll be in business!

They do seem to be mostly a mare thing.

I have a mare I bred that got her mother’s ears. This year she was bred to Romancero and produced a gorgeous black colt - with her huge ears. Below are pictures of them, but note that we worked long and hard to get photos of them with their huge ears UP and not lopped.

If you really want lop ears, you can talk to this mare’s owner about breeding a custom foal from her. Oh, and she is a full 17 hands tall and Hanoverian approved.

Oldenburg mare by Allerhand out of a TB. Her ears are quite loppy, especially when she’s feeling humorous.

I’ve got a mare with floppy ears. I really had no idea what her trainer was talking about when he went on about how she holds her ears when she’s training, but she NEVER actually has her ears pricked forward

This is a terrible picture of her, but it shows off her silly ears pretty well
