where to find used saddles

I’m looking for a specific saddle in the used market and I’m having no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look. I’m aware of many of the more common stores but no luck there.

I thought I was OK with my saddle. Then I rode in one of these. Time to buy a new saddle apparently.

If it’s OK to post what I’m looking for I will but I don’t want to break any rules.

Post what you are looking for, I pretty sure it isn’t against the rules if you are looking. I’m assuming you have tried a google search for what you are specifically looking for? That’s usually my first start place, it might bring up more options. Also, maybe list the places you have looked so they don’t get repeated. There are lots of consignment shops on line, might try a search that way also.

If this is against the rules feel free to modify.

Copied from the fitters notes: Black Country Eloquence (or Bellissima), 18.5" seat, medium classic tree, front gussets (longer is better), upswept back gussets, serge panels (leather is not a deal breaker here though) and standard or short flap.

I’ve looked at Trumbull mountain, Pelham, Rick’s, Fine Used Saddles, Middleburg Tack Exchange, and I’ve done a number of Google searches, Craigslist, ebay, etc.

I’m sure there are dozens of local places out there.

What I’m looking for is quite specific, so I don’t know if I’ll have any luck but it’s worth a try.

She really emphasized the importance of the front gussets. My horse has a huge shoulder and I noticed how much more free he was in the front when I tried the demo.

Cosmetic blemishes that don’t affect function are not a problem.

I’m sure you’ve noticed the spelling difference, but it’s the Bellissima model. According to BC’s own literature, anything built on their euro tree can be adjusted one size each way, which might make finding a possibility a bit easier.

It’s a funny time to be looking for a used saddle. I just stumbled on a used 17.5" Eloquence with the full front gussets and serge panels and am deliriously in love with it. Pony appreciates it more than that last saddle, too, though technically it fit him just fine.

This saddle was advertised on the BC website as well as kijiji. The owner was willing to ship to the US. Lucky me!

edited to add: I meant that I’d just been talking to my saddle fitter this week and she commented that there are not many used saddles on the market right now, and the ones that are just aren’t selling. So don’t despair! The holidays might just be a challenging time to find the perfect saddle. I didn’t expect to find anything, and my list was pretty much identical to yours, except for seat size!

I’m sure you’ve already visited their website, but here it is: http://www.blackcountrysaddles.com/ (just in case!). They do have a section for used saddles, so you might look there?

Since these are British-made, you might have better luck looking at used tack sites in England, and having one shipped over. It’s honestly not that expensive. Check ebay.co.uk as well. I found my Frank Baines Elegance this way, for hundreds less than I could have gotten it for in the US.

Thanks. Corrected the typo.

Try http://www.saddlesdirect.co.uk/, they will ship to the US, don’t know how that will effect the cost if you are on a budget.

http://www.hastilowusa.com/second-hand-sales/dressage-saddles-page-2.html they had some BC listed, not the specific one you are looking for though

You might also try posting on the Horse and Hound forums.
