Where to get halter with nose buckle?

I’m looking for pony size leather halter with nose buckle for my wonderful school pony. Much easier for children… Can’t seem to find any in USA, any suggestions?

Or really any Amish tack shop could make them if they don’t carry them already. I know Bartville sold them last time I was there.

I have found that style halter to be very handy to have around and I have always gotten mine at Driving Essentials.

I just looked and Driving Essentials appear to only have nylon nose buckle halters, so that is not exactly what you are looking for, bummer.

Shires make them with a buckle to adjust nose size in pony and they should be available throughout the US.

Oh, Hightale’s post makes me wonder if I read the original post wrong.
I assumed the OP was looking for the halter with the buckle on the top of the nose, that allows easy removal or application of the halter while the horse is tacked.
Having the buckle underneath for adjustment does not offer this feature.

You are correct. Top of nose.

This is perfect! Thank you!

I ordered one from Tack Shack of Ocala. The option used to be on their website but I didn’t see it when I looked just now. I’m sure they can still make them even if the option isn’t online anymore. They’ve always been very responsive to email/call/Facebook messages in my experience.

Here’s a photo (excuse the broken crown strap, halter did its job when horsey had a moment about his girth being tightened too quickly)

Eta, lots of harness shops carry these if you’re looking for other options! I went with Tack Shack because I knew I loved their halters, but I did a lot of research before ending up with another Tack Shack halter

Shires definitely do a leather headcollar with nose buckle, look for a Shires Blenheim Adjustable Leather Headcollar, or a Shires Velociti GARA Leather Headcollar. Widely available in the UK, I can provide links to UK sites but not US ones.

Thanks all, I found a company in Kentucky that makes them to order, all leather and on sale for $35!

Can I ask the stupid question… how are these easier for the kiddos? Just curious

When switching from halter to bridling, It is often a bit difficult for small kids to drop the halter just over the horses nose, and then push the crown piece back around their ears, so they remain essential tied during bridling.
This makes it easy for them to unbuckle the Noseband and still have the pony/horse in cross ties while they bridle…and easier to put back on if they need to replace halter and wait for help.

Alternatively, you can put the bridle on right over the halter, and then easily slip the halter off from under the bridle with this set up, by unbuckling both the noseband and the crown piece of the halter. This is particularly useful if you have a horse tied to a trailer… And you have the dicey moment where they are not fully haltered, and not yet fully bridled. It’s a safer transfer.

Exactly this, I’ve used the nylon version for years as I can bridle the horse over the halter then remove the halter from under the bridle. I didn’t know they made one in leather so it’s now on my shopping list :grinning:.
